New Ceramic Syndrome

Funny thing, Ive never had the issue so far as my first Ody was secondhand. Then I bought 2 rebuildable units from last pre-order, again no problem. I thought I might have a problem but had them set up already and went for it , but no off taste.

Today I set up some rebuildable units from parts I ordered. All the parts were bought recently, I cleaned the stainless steel pieces, torched the ceramic and yuck. It tastes like when you get new silica and dont torch it. I took it apart and rinse and torched it again, but the taste is still there, not as strong, but enough to make me want to take it apart and re-torch again.

I have seen some suggestions before on how to deal with the new ceramic, but cant find it. I would love some help with this. Its so awful. Even with the new untreated silica wick , it usually goes away after a while, but this being a denser larger ceramic its just disgusting. I have to go brush my teeth again.

I think boiling it in milk was one of the solutions to the "off" tasting ceramics last spring/winter. I haven't tried that, myself, though.

Put it in vodka and forget it for a few hours. Then remove and let air dry. You can apply a light torch.

cool, Im boiling it in water right now. Then I will soak it in vodka etc. It wierd that the ceramic in the new rebuildable units did not taste bad and the separate new ceramics taste awful.

I had to add this, a good way to get the new ceramic syndrome taste off your tongue is to brush teeth twice, make some coffee and have a cookie.

Boiling in milk does work. But then you have that mess to deal with. Vodka, if soaked enough, works well. A short torch at the end finishes it. But make sure it's fully cooled prior to inserting it into the housing.
