I think we've all seen the V4L video on how to clean batts. he says to place the battery on a laying-flat toothbrush and work it on the bristles (auto batts). then use a sewing needle dipped in alcohol to clean around the rim and the air holes.

my problem is that this method is not working. i am rigorously working the bristles into the divot that surrounds the center post and i cant get the black stuff out. maybe i waited too long in between cleaning sessions and now i fear that the black stuff is there to stay.

am i screwed? do i need new batts? please tell me there is another way to clean my poor batts! :(

Use a tissue and fold the corner of it into a small point (thin enough to fit) run it along that inside groove, careful not to push to hard on the post. That should help get some of it out, if not try a toothpick dipped in a little bit of alcohol (enough to wet the toothpick but not dripping) the toothpick will stay wet where the needle wont.
Good luck, hope it helps.

thanks for the replies guys. so the black stuff is carmelized juice....interesting. makes sense. its more of an issue for my gf than for me, and seeing how her cartos are sometimes less than dry...makes sense.

im worried that its affectig the flavor of the vapor. she has been complaining of a burnt taste and at first i thought it was the cartos. replaced the cartos, still bad taste. then i checked he batts and theyre filthy. i cant get the .... off. shes not e-cig savvy enough to use proper maintenence. shiit, she doesnt even fill her own cartos...nevermind cleaning the batts. i guess i gotta make sure her cartos are super dry after i fell em.

i will try the alcohol soak though. not much to lose anyhow, seeing how i think the carmelized juice is affecting the taste of the vapor. i know that using salt as an abrasive works for cleaning other "devices" so maybe ill try that.

That burnt taste will happen if the cartos don't have enough liquid or if the liquid is to thick and not wicking well. Could also just be a sign of a used up carto. Darker liquids will also shorten the life span.

The stuff i get down there is black or green. I tear a piece of paper
with-3-4 mm
length- whatever.
Stick it down and turn the batt.. The sides are still discoloured after but all the gunk is out..

Green would tend to imply corrosion of copper. Other than removing a thin layer of metal (which doesnt seem possible), there's not much that can be done mechanically. I suppose a chemical "tarnish remover" liguid might help, but not sure I'd want to subject an e-cig batt to that (mess up taste, foul up other components, etc).

i am aware of the burnt carto taste due to not enough liquid. i should have mentioned that. thank you for the input though.
