Cleaning mod in sonic cleaner w/ rubbing alcohol

So, ive got a mech mod that could use a cleaning of the lock ring threads, and general lock ring assembly. Ive got the Akuma and the bottom part I'd like to clean is made of (I believe) Brass, copper, and a bit of plasitc for insulation around where the .... (-) of the battery goes

I picked up a sonic cleaner at Salvation Army for a few bucks the other day for speed steeping experimenting. I've got no cleaning solution for the sonic cleaner, but I do happen to have rubbing alcohol and dish soap at my disposal, I was wondering if that would help clean out the lock ring threads at all. I have hit the threads with a wire brush but that didnt work as well as i wouldve liked. any past experience/help would be appreciated.

There is a difference between a sonic cleaner and an ultrasonic cleaner. A sonic cleaner basically does nothing but vibrate. You can use flammable substances in a sonic cleaner; just be aware that it is electrically operated and a danger of ignition can be present. Also don't use solvents that may damage the plastic in the unit.

A true ultrasonic cleaner uses ultrasonic sound energy which gives a much more violent cleaning effect. They are great for thorough cleaning of metal or other hard substances. They will cause disintegration of a silica wick due to the microscopic cleaning effects. Since much more energy can be created, flammable substances are NOT recommended. Many people will use them, but realize the danger of fire increases. Quite often a true ultrasonic cleaner will use a tank heater; this will definitely increase the vaporization and flammability of the solution used.

Ive got a sonic cleaner, one of the reasons i wasnt too worried about alcohol. I am keeping my eyes open for an ultrasonic cleaner on the cheap though, so this is good info to have. One of the reasons this is my go-to forum, I always get quality answers and (usually) nobody is there to make you feel stupid for not knowing whatever it may be, peeps are always polite and helpful as can be.
