I gave up on it. You can wash them, soak them, shake them, and repeat. They absorb flavors and never let them go. Glass bottles are much better. Wash with a lil bit of dish soap and they come completely clean every time.
I do the same as you, warm water rinse, maybe a little dish soap. Yes you can sometimes smell a strong flavor coming out even after a good wash, but I've yet to taste that in the next juice I put in the bottle. I guess if you were a professional wine taster you might pick it up, but me, never seemed to matter.
If you use and ultra sonic cleaner to "speed steep" the you have to use glass. I use the glass bottles to mix and run through the Ultra sonic. I leave them uncapped for the night and the transfer them to plastic needle bottles to finish steeping and for general use.
