Cleaning Protank

Hi everyone,

I got a protank mini II yesterday and tomorrow I'm expecting some juices in the mail. So, I'd like to clean it to get my current juice residues off of it.

I know how to disassemble it and clean it, but I have a question regarding cleaning.

I've seen people mention using denture cleaning tablets to clean their systems - I have retainer cleaning tablets, will those be suitable?

Also if I can use the retainer tablets, which parts of the protank would I soak with them? I assume I can't soak the actually atomizer coil in the liquid, but can I let the tank and the metal parts soak in it?

I agree hot water works just as well as anything else might. Depending on what juice you had and how old your coils are you could always do a dry burn. I suggest you look on YouTube or here on the forums for a proper method for how to do a dry burn because I always seem to ruin my coils :p

I always seem to ruin my coils when I try to dry burn too. I just don't even bother anymore.

But seriously, for the protank, just rinse it through hot water and dry it with a paper towel.

As for the coil, I just use a paper towel to pull any residual juice from the wicks. Letting the coil sit on the paper towel a few minutes will cause it to drain out most of it. then just press or gently drag the wick against a fresh dry piece of paper towel, repeat this step several times until the wick leaves almost/no trace on the paper towel. This seems to do the trick pretty well without the risk of burning up my coils.

I'm here, when I'm here
I take mine apart and soak it in rubbing alcohol, in a custard cup, for about 3 minutes without the coil. Rinse well with water and put it back together. Good to go. No taste from the previous liquid. If your coil is still in good shape and you're using the same liquid, use it. If a new liquid, use a new coil. Hope this helps.

Happy Vaping!! :vapor:

I +1 the hot water but I personally soak my coils in Vodka (or Everclear) after one day for about two hours and let them dry.

I rotate a few of them so while a few are soaking, I have a dry one to use.

I haven't tried dry burning. It was heavily suggested with CE3s and it worked 50% of the time when I did it, ruined the coil the other 50% and only worked one more time if it did. I am not saying that it is the same for the PTs but not worth the effort IMO

Thanks for the replies guys.

I ended up just rinsing them in mildly hot water (I don't want to accidentally overheat the tank and crack it) and then dry burning the coil.

As far as "accidentally burning up the coils" as some people mentioned, is that really easy to do? How will I be able to tell if I did burn it up by mistake?

My dry burning procedure goes like:

Shake any water out of the coil
Attach to battery without tank
Continually hold power button in 10 second increments until I can see the coil glowing red, then I assume it's done.

The coil usually gets a "burny" smell when I dry burn it, is this OK?

10 seconds is too long. 2-4 seconds let off then do it again until all the juice burns off and the coil glows red. I blow on it during the process to get rid of ash.

Your smelling the juice burn off.

Thanks. So by "too long" did I damage it? I always thought that it didn't matter if you did bursts or not since the coils are glowing anyway.

you won't know until you try to use it again. You could have popped the coil or burned the wick. Popped the coil is only fixed with a re-build and burnt wick will always taste burnt.

This is why I stopped dry burning. I was pretty careful and the results were too mixed for me personally. Someone who is more tech savvy or mechanically inclined will likely have better results.

It still works. If the coil popped, it wouldn't work at all right?
