I recently built my first mod; a box mod in the Puck style. It is wired to hold up to 5 AAA NiMH 1.2V batteries. Typically I've been using 4 batts with an XL clearomizer which measures in at 3.7 ohm. Unloaded voltage for this set up is 5.2V; loaded with the 3.7 ohm clearomizer, the voltage is 3.8V. This set up vapes wonderfully all day. Initially I tried using 5 batts which gives a loaded voltage of 5.0V using the same clearomizer. However, when the liquid level is less than half, the atty coil glows red. Is this an indication of the 'wicking' problems that are mentioned for the clearomizers?

My clearomizers when half full start to have wicking problems at around 5 watts with 2.6 or 2.4 ohms. You are using about 7.3 watts. I think if you are going to use that much power they will need to be modded for better wicking or keep them topped off. Usually I just top them off at that point. Or if I'm feeling lazy I tip the battery down to moisten the wick.
