Clear eGo Mega Dual Coil Cartomizer Question

Hey guys, I got 4 of these things from MadVapes for my Ego. I've never used cartomizers at all. I've always been a dripper since I started but I figured I'd give these a try.

I filled it up and started vaping. The first few drags off it were amazing. The flavor was great, throat hit was a 10. But after only 10 or so drags it started to taste like it was empty. No flavor at all. It's clear so I can see that there's still juice in it.

BTW I'm vaping Minthol from madvapes. 24MG. Which is the juice I've been using for over a year now.

Any suggestions?

How much did you put in it? Shouldn't they hold as much as a Clearo sometimes?

about 5ML I'd say. I can top it off with 3 or 4 drops every 10 drags or so and it's good but if I have to do that I don't really get the point of using it.

Not sure what the problem could be. You appear to have put enough juice in, and you can see the juice level which is good. The juice you are using doesn't look like it should be too thick (heavy vg) to feed the heating coils. It isn't a heavy vg juice, is it? Any burnt flavoring?

If you are a heavy vapor, or chain vapor, you may need to allow some time between vapes for adequate juice flow to the coils, or do a "primer" hit or two before actually hitting on the power button.

I used the Smoktech XXXXL dual coil carto's a few months back on my Silver Bullet and BB. They worked nicely, but I did notice that they performed better when topped off frequently. These used a different polyfill materieal than their regular cartomizers that the manufacturer claimed would absorb juice more easily; maybe it holds on to the juice too much and doesn't give it up to the heating coils as fast as it should.

I went in another direction to carto-tanks and never went back. The carto's in a tank are constantly being fed juice from the tank, so if the cartomizer is prepped properly and there are an adequate number of holes in the carto to provide adequate juice to the heating coils, life is bliss.

I had the same problem as well and threw in the towel. The juice I was using wasn't to thick and priming did nothing for me either.

@Baditude - do you think switching to a tank would solve my problem? Can I use tanks on a regular Ego battery?

If you mean using normal sized cartomizers in a tank, yes it could. Many vapors prefer using tanks to say dripping on an atomizer or using just a cartomizer alone, or a clearomizer, ce3, etc.

Using them has a learning curve as getting "things just right" for the juice to make it to the heating coils efficiently is the key. Most of this depends upon the size and number of holes that need to be in the cartomizer in order for the tank to feed inside the carto. The carto has to be filled or prepped correctly, and the tank assembled correctly to prevent flooding of the cartomizer, or the opposite, dry hits.

Initially, I'd recommend buying pre-drilled cartomizers when first learning to use a cartotank. It just takes that much of the learning curve out of the equation. I'd recommend 2 holes. This is only an example: http://www.smoktek.com/Single-Coil-XL-Tank-Cartomizer-for-the-SmokTank-XL_p_211.html

Later, if you find carto-tanks are for you, you can try your hand punching your own cartos to save some money if you so desire.

I would get a slim tank for an ego battery. Only as an example, My Vapor Store sells a Smoktech DCT tank kit with metal endcaps and a polypropylene plastic tube, with a 5 pack of predrilled cartos and a drip tip for $21. Both the slim and normal size tanks use the same XL sized cartomizers.

IBTanked - Get Tanked With Us! sells a high quality, inexpensive pyrex tube tank with either acrylic or steel endcaps starting at $21 (this is for the tank only). The tubes are available in 19mm diameter (slim) and wider (25mm). Standard length tubes take a standard size cartomizer (ie. Boge). Extra long length tubes take an XL size cartomizer (ie. Smoktek dual or single coil).

Although I'm not personally a big fan of them, many will recommend the Vivi Nova or Smoktech Titan clearomizer tanks. These are easy to fill because of a twist off top and are easy to clean and provide huge vapor. In my own experience, I have found them to mute flavors in some of my juices, so I don't often recommend them.

I don't really know but I had a few of those and they use a lot of juice and are good fr FLV ... Maybe the ohms on them are a bit high battery is low which ever .... I don't know .... But really I love dripping but cortos are just as good for my opinion

I think I might have just been vaping it too quickly. It seems to be working pretty good now.

Because I knew these were coming, I gave all but one of my attys and a few spare batteries so she could quit smoking so I'm kind of stuck with these for the time being.

My experience with these was the longer I vaped, the better they seemed to get because they hold so much liquid.

If you're used to dripping, there is really not going to be any comparison with using any kind of a carto/clearo/tank. The downside of cartos is less flavor, the up side is filling less often. You might like a slightly smaller carto like a smoktek 1.7 or even an xl boge. If you like the smaller cartos better, you can always get an inexpensive tank.

For me, and it's been awhile, but it seem to take longer for the mega carto to get going.
