The needle tip goes in those incredibly tiny holes on the sides of the ring, putting juice in the center hole will just run out the tube as you've found. You can take out that third insert and drip down the sides of the carto to fill but I think you'll want to put it back before inserting your drip tip to help minimize (not eliminate) leaking. I thought they were a great idea, but they don't quite pull it off in execution so I agree with Scottitude on this one.

I just received some of the ce2 xl clearomizer revision 5's today. I filled one with the plastic needle no problem. I then let it sit for a little while to let it soak. When I took a hit it was awful, that nasty brunt taste. I hit it a few more times and the bad taste started to get a little better but it still was nasty (although it was producing huge clouds of vapor. I remembered seeing a video where somebody primed these with a drop of juice. So I took it apart until the top of the wicking fibers were visable. It was covered with ucky black goop. I scraped at it and used a Qtip to clean it up as best I could. I then primed it with two small drops of juice and put ut back together. WOW! That was just what the doctor ordered. It no longer tasted burnt and the flavor was strong considering the juice I was using was very bland. It is now producing more vapor than I have ever seen come out of my GLV2, clouds of thick vapor. So from now on I definitely will be priming these. I'm very impressed with these so far. I've been referring them to all my friends. I'm sold on these for right now (until the next new wave of cartos come out probably).
