Ah, the trick to CE2's.
There is a very fine line between getting juice in the vent tube and starving the coil. If you can find that happy place by losening up the seal enough to get a sufficient supply of juice to the coil, they are wonderful.
It could also be too much heat. Using a vv mod I have found the sweetspot for continuous vaping on a 3.2 ohm is at 4.4v. Higher voltage (even 4.5v) gives a warmer vapor, but tends to get a little burning taste unless you let it sit a while between big puffs.

Take all of the silicone rings out including the one that covers the ceramic cup. Take that cup cover and clip the wick openings a little bigger with really pointy scissors. Fill and replace everything. The silicone cup cover still doesn't allow enough juice to get to the heating element. You would think after all the revisions that Royal Smoker would get it right.

I don't mean to hijack your thread here but I have some questions myself....

I have some 2.4 ohms clearomizers that I use with a 3.7v battery... fully charged it runs about 4.2v-4.3v. With these clearomizers I am getting a burnt taste as well. I have tried clipping the wick openings and removing/loosening the cap as well as "fluffing" the wicks. I have not tried dry burning, torching or otherwise pre-cleaning before I use them.

Could the burnt taste be attributed to not cleaning it before hand, or should I get some clearomizers with a higher resistance?

hmm Ill have to give the torching a try as well as pre-cleaning. But here's my concern. When the CE2 is filled. I get a burnt taste as if the liquid is burning too fast (5v) and the coils dont stay wet enough. When i drop 1-2 drops onto he coil it works for 1-2 puffs then nasty burnt taste again. I would love for these to work, would be so convenient while at work to not have to constantly drip

Think i might just end up selling the rest of what i have.

Based on your experience, this is probably best. I've never been able to more than 2 or 3 draws off any CE2/Clearo/Fluxo without that gawd-awful burning/melting plastic taste. They just don't wick quickly enough for me and filling them is way too time-consuming.

Of course, this is my opinion and YMMV.

I'm having the same experience. I have had one clearomizer work correctly for me until it developed cracks in the base and started leaking. I flipped it upside down but it's just not the same anymore. All the others that I have tried so far, about 6, have that burnt taste if I hit them for very long. I tried all the mods. The only mod that I have had any luck with is the one that turns the clearomizers into a type of dripper. You have to keep flipping it upside down to fill the ceramic cup. It actully tastes good but it's a hassle and you end up with juice in your mouth and it burns juice FAST. They have become more trouble than their worth. This product should work straight out of the wrapper or it needs to go back to the drawing board.

Theres a new bottom feeding "clearomizer" in the works from gotvapes.com it's called the Vortex. I saw a video on it, you can take back to back hits as long as there is juice in it. Seems pretty dreamy. . . I hope this is our dream carto. Haha. Theres no filler in it what so ever, it's got a glass tube in the middle or maybe it's plastic? I forget for the air flow... And around that tube, is where your juice is in it and the atomizer is below all of this. Let's hope these Vortexes could be it!

I just recently saw something about those. At first I thought it would just fit certain batteries because it seemed to good to be true. I guess it can be use on a 510 connection. Let's all hope that this is the cartomizer that we are all looking for. I wish something would come on the market that actually did what it claimed without any tinkering. I'm beginning to think that it's a way for the industry to keep making money by stringing us along with sub par coil systems claiming that "this next one will end all the problems that we have seen from the past ones". You would think by now something could be made to work, this stuff isn't brain surgery. I think their R&D departments need to have some actual people who vape day in and day out in their research teams. Somebody needs the tell these companies what our needs are and what the problems are with the current devices that they are producing. Something has got to come out that worrks the way it should. Just my little rant for the day, probably for the week, Ha.

Clearomizers remind of of the catch phrase: "plug and pray!". Depending on the juice, they leak. The vape is hot because the coil is too close to the mouth, and they only wick so so. Some people love them but so much depends on the vaping style, voltage, and type of juice. My DIY apple pie worked ok but hot; my DIY banana creme cracked them after a few hours. I did not take one vape on the banana since I was called away after filling.

They also need a longer, gently contoured tip that does not pass the vapor through such a small restriciton.

IMHO, they need to change the plastic that is used. It is probably a cheep amporphous (meaning non crystalline) plastic that does not stand up well to any type of chemicals or moderate heat.

The tube needs to be slightly larger to not crimp the wick.

In other words, it is not plug and play, and definitely not for everyone.

Here's what has worked for me. I have the 3.0 - 3.2 ohm clearo's 510 that I use with my Saber 5 volt.

I've replaced the tube with a 3ml BD syringe, but cut it a little longer. I've removed everything but the inner silicone washer.

There is about 1/2 inch space between the mouthpiece and washer. This allows the vapor to cool a little before inhaling. There is no burnt tasting liquid.

After a few pulls, some condensation of liquid will start to pool on top of the silicone washer. I let the condensation build up because what it does is keep the coil wet - it helps with the wicking. No burnt or harsh taste, just flavor and tons of vapor.

Initially, I had problems with wicking because I use and make 100% VG juices. I solved this by thinning my liquids to a consistency a little thicker than water by using distilled water. By the time the clearo is 1/3 full, the liquid has become very thick. I just add some more distilled water and continue vaping. No wicking problems.

To refill, I just pull the silicone washer out, tip the clearo at an angle and squeeze juice down the side. Make sure to have a paper towel over the battery connection end to catch any juice that flows out.

The photo shows my clearo on the left with Wyatt Earp juice. The right is a new clearo.

The only thing I have found the CE-2's good for is a MAP tank. Even with a MAP you need to have it more than 1/2 full in order not to get that god aweful CE-2 dry hit. I have tried all versions and just placed an order for the Vortex. Clearomizer, standard no matter what for me they never lived up to the hype. Here's hoping the Vortex gives a better more consistent hit!

I'm one of those who have no trouble with Clearomizers, XL or Regular, 2.8 or 3.0 ohms on 4.27 to 4.4Volts, juice is pretty much 70%PG to 30%VG. I only vape clear or nearly clear e-liquids, typically tobacco or minty juices. Brand new out of the package, I simply fill them with a regular syringe needle, nearly full, not all the way full - I don't know why, but if I stuff it full of juice to where it runs over into the tube and I have to blow it out, it doesn't seem to wick right for a few vapes. Anyway, after filling nearly full, then I drop a couple of drops straight down into the coil and let my PV sit on its side for a couple of minutes or so, letting the wick get nicely saturated and do it's wicking thing. Pick it up, vape, no problem. I don't ever let it go dry, that's one thing I love about clearomizers, I can see when it's getting low. Fill 'er back up, don't have to do an extra dripping thing on the coil this time, just continue vaping.

For me, any dark juice or very sweet juice or sorts of chocolately juice burns onto the coil of any atty/carto and is burny-tasting pretty quickly. Also found that any all-VG or high % VG juice never wicked properly in any atty or carto and so for me, has to be dripped. Gave up on screwing around with all those types months ago. Sticking with what works now, lol.

Cheers y'all,
SteelJan

After my own experiences and those of other users with Clearomizers, I think that it is safe to say:

1) These are not plug and play
2) They need modifications to work with all juices/voltages
3) There are some inherent flaws in it
a) The tubes crack with many juices and then leak. IMHO, this has to do with the type of plastic that is used, probably PS
which is not a good choice for this application.
b) The coil is too close to the mouthpiece and makes for a hot vape-something that is not to everyone's taste.
c) The rubber mouthpiece is a joke and needs to be longer, less abruptly contoured, and wider
d) You are asking for trouble by removing the tube to clean them: it only stresses the tube causing cracks and leaking.
e) It's easier to just get an 18 gage needle and 50 ml syringe, fill it with warm water, insert it, and rinse it out.
f) The wick should have a bit more room.

Overall, I would give this a C-/D+. It works, sort of .

They work very well for me.
Stock stuff...3.4v on 2.4ohm CE2 X.
Fill and go.
I prefer the metal ones since I like to bang mine around...the sleeves don't crack and they don't leak.

Only 'mod' I've ever done is slightly lifting the inner ring for some really thick juices, or replacing the sleeve on cracked clearos with syringe tubes (I do hate those stock clearo sleeves...but if I avoid cinnamons and spicy fruits, just fill them and vape...never taking them apart...they last well enough to get my $$$ worth).

Not 'perfect', but I've yet to find any 'less offensive' carto with the occasional plastic taste, duds in the package, etc.

I do want them to work out the kinks...but I'd hate it if these went away.
Not the best 'value', nor easiest to fill and top, but do I like they way they vape so I'll keep using them till something better comes along.
