I am a realitive Newbie and I know this has been mentioned before, but one thing has become clear during my forays into the CE clearos and tanks with atomizer wicks.
All the replacement atomizers and wick work much better and taste much better if you soak them in grain, rinse them with water, and then dry them out before using them. There is some kind of stuff on the wicks that prevents them from initally taking up the smoke juice and it irritates my throat and sometimes even gives me a nastey dry cough. I don't seem to be sensitve to PG or VG, but there is something that comes imbeded in the factory wicks that is really obnoxious. I got a fresh reminder when I put a new atomizer in a tanks and ended up with a raw throat and was up half the night coughing. Once I clean and or break in the wicks they work fine, but I will never forget to soak and clean a wick before using it again.

Somewhere there's another thread that mentions this coating on the wicking. Many suggest dryburn to get it off. With certain kinds of wicking though, you can burn your wicking and end up with a bad taste anyway.
The option of using alcohol isn't much of an option when considering the Ego Vision style without replaceable wicks, as the plastic casing will crack or haze with alcohol. Good to note with those other type though.

Because of all that, with the Ego style cartos I've been rinsing in warm water and drying then using. Seems to help a little.

It does help to rinse them and dry them. It is interesting that it is not the same with all wicks even in the same devices and from the same manufacturers. Some batches seem to have more of the solvent and some seem to have less. I can't help but wonder if this a a quality control issue or if the solvents just dissapate over time.
