Are clones worth it? Are they at least close to the quality of the originals...if so does anyone know where to buy them

The quality of clones varies a lot. Depends on what clone you are talking about. Your best bet is to find a specific item you are interested in and then start searching to find out which clone might work for you.
Completely varies - some are junk, some have been reputed as good as or even better than the original.
If you have a particular device in mind, people here can probably tell you what to look at...
Some clone makers have developed an BRAND - for instance, a clone by Infinite is probably a pretty good atomizer. A clone by ToBeCo is probably gonna be grungy on arrival and have crappier threads than whatever it's a copy of.

I had never bought a clone before, but I did order one earlier this week (I'm camped out by the mailbox...lol). Even though I already have a handful of Kayfun Lite authentics, I was curious about clones and ordered an EHPro Kayfun Lite so I can try it, compare it, etc. I ordered the EHPro brand because I have heard good things about their quality, not to mention the price was roughly 1/3 that of the authentic. I guess I will find out how it is in the next day or so. 
Look I've owned countless clones and authentic mods in the last year or so. The clones tend to be more poorly made but they're a great start if you're not looking to spend a ton on a metal tube. My authentics have never had problems with them and if I do have one I could just contact the creator and ask for more parts. Clones generally perform nearly the same as their authentic counterparts, in fact I've hit some that perform better (but rarely). Don't let anyone bash you for having a clone either, vaping is about doing it your way.
All I have is clones and for the most part, I find INFINITE clones to be the best in quality and performance.
If you are buying something simple like a mech or RDA, even if it's not a 1:1 clone inmost cases it will do a reasonable job
I wouldn't recommend anything with electronics that is supposed to take a high load (box mods).
When buying clones, in order to maximize rate of success you should either choose manufacturers which are known for better quality like infinite or hcigar or when buying from fasttech relay on customer reviews of each specific product.

Hey Susan S, Just Joined ECF, New to Vaping (aug 2014) thanks for the "steam engine", interested in rebuildables - so the steam engine is usefull information thanks again
sometimes they are better than the originals... for example.. i have an EA mod (electric angel) from ehpro. it actually functions better than the original especially in re: to dropping any load...
Hope this thread doesnt turn into another episode of clone wars lol
Personally i dont touch them but in answer to your original question - id say no theyre not. having said that id also say the majority of people in this forum have them and dont complain.
If you want to go down that road like someone else said in this thread not all clones are the same. If i had to get one id go for one of the more established names and read reviews first before buying.

hcigar
infinite
those are the three i hear the most good and least bad about.
clones are a good way to enter mech land... you don't spend and arm and a leg and get an idea of if you would like the mod. if you do.. you can certainly lay down the cash to get a genuine one..
or you can get mods that aren't clones but aren't super expensive either.

I ordered a clone today based on recommendations from people here.
I expect it will be very good.
First clone I have ordered other tanks and coils are authentic.
Also was told that clones from known companies such as HCigar , EHpro and Infinite to name some are better than no name clones.
Keeping in mind as with most things one persons favourite you may dislike.

I have a couple of Infinite clones and they're perfect Also heard Hcigar and Ephro are good
