Okay, I need to buy myself a present (before the credit card statement with the vet's bill shows up.) I'm thinking of a Kindle (sale ends today.) I've never used WiFi (I know, I'm backwards.) Kindle Fire HDX has WiFi only and WiFi+4GLTE options. Regular Kindle Fire has neither but does web, e-mail & phone. How? Do you need to plug it into your modem?

Which should I buy? How much storage?

BTW, I still have a flip phone. (On purpose.)
I have a Kindle Fire HDX and love it. My dnlaw has the Kindle Fire. I like the camera options on the HDX. I also like the picture/movies better on the HDX. WiFi only is what I have but as long as you have a router in your home you are good with the wifi only. The WiFi+4GLTE will let you connect anywhere (like your phone), where as the wifi only has to be in an area where wifi is available

I'm afraid someday they are gonna tell me I need to upgrade. I got this one back when it was still Alltel. Now it is Verizon. they did tell us that they didn't support some features. Think it had something to do with texting but since I don't do that it shouldn't effect me.
dats what da cavewoman said when the cave boy imbented da microwave on wheels  It shouldn't effect me.....

If you want WiFi you will need a wireless router 4g is phone type signal if it doesn't have either one you will have to plug it in

Got it, thanks. I have Verizon High Speed (not FIOS, they won't wire my building unless 60% sign a multi-year contract.) I might switch back to cable. Both are WiFi capable if you know how to set them up so I wouldn't need a router. But, if I want to use it away from home and take advantage of WiFi on the train or in places that have free WiFi, I should get one with WiFi. I don't need the 4G.

It looks like they are going to phase out the regular 8.9" HD (in favor of the HDX.) Most of the models are around $30-$40 off. That one is $80 off. So, a little more research on X or not X, pick a size and buy.

Thanks again.

I bought a new battery for my phone, too. I have the lowest minutes plan they have and texts are blocked (although Verizon thinks that doesn't apply to them. They send me texts anyway on the theory that they're not charging me for them so I won't mind them.)

WiFi+4GLTE ups the price by $100 (plus it's only on the ones with huge storage) so I'll go with WiFi only. (Although I'll probably spring for $15 to not get their "special offers" aka their ads instead of a screen saver.
