the reo doesnt have protection per say meaning it will fire even if you have a short. It does have a collapsible spring which will compress if you get a short and your battery gets hot to break the connection. If you are using an RBA with it always meter your build on a regulated device or with an ohm meter to make sure you do not have a short. Make sure your rba is fully assembled (ie. drip tip on, cap on) and ready to go when you meter it as things like the coil touch the top cap will cause a short which you will not see if you meter your build with the cap off.
