There are advantages and disadvantages to both, but generally I like cobalt bits myself. They're pricier, but they last longer IMO. Especially when you have to start resharpening them.
And there's the rub... if you use them, and I'd imagine retired uses them as much as I do... you will sharpen them - so make the initial investment David, and have a good set of bits for the next 20 years... or until we can all get DRO guided, 2000 watt Mitsubishi laser cutters for $399.95. ;-)

Get a kit you can afford, or an alternative - if you're only going to use a few sizes, see if you can get individual bits. If you need 3-4 sizes in metric, look around on the interweb for premium stuff... spend 5-10 per bit and have killer quality and no bits you won't ever use.
Alright well I did a bit of research and you're right I should only buy a few bits, the ones I need. I saw online a few that comes with like a 29 piece set and I'm sure I won't need all of it. SO I did more research and I came up with 3 options.

Option 1: This ones a set that has 1.0mm thru 6.0mm x .5mm

Item # VI 58670 D-11M, Type 643-D M42 Metric Cobalt Jobber Length Heavy-Duty Drill Set On A-Z Factory Supply

Option 2: This one has 1.0mm thru 7.0mm x .5mm

Item # VI 49082 D-13M, Type 643-D M42 Metric Cobalt Jobber Length Heavy-Duty Drill Set On A-Z Factory Supply

Now I also found this other one, not sure if this one is good.

13pc. 1/16"-1/4" M42 Cobalt Gold Drill Set

I am really aiming for quality and I feel like USA made drill bits will last longer and quality is top notch. Just not sure if these guys are reputable. I saw some Irwin bits what are your thoughts on those? Any suggestions to a brand?

I don't really have a recommendation for brands, but if you aren't sure exactly how big you want your air hole to be you're probably going to want to get some sizes between 1.0 and 1.5mm. 1.5mm or 1/16" (very close to the same size) is too airy for a lot of people. I have an IGO-L that came with its stock air hole of 1mm, and I also have an AGA-T2 that I purchased used and which had its air hole drilled out to 1/16"; personally I think my sweet spot would be somewhere between those two sizes.
