Does anyone find that having freshly and finely ground coffee used on the same day as its grinding to be better for extraction? I tried extracting using a fine ground that had been in my pantry for a couple of weeks and the extraction came out very weak. I'm assuming it's the aged coffee?

I buy fresh beans, grind them coarsely, then soak in a sunny window for 3-4 days. I have tried already ground coffee (flavored) as well. The difference is the same as it would be if you were drinking it. :)

You will always get more (imo better) flavor out of a freshly ground fresh bean than a grind that's been sitting around for awhile. Just common sense.

Also, be careful about flavored coffee/teas. Read the labels...you'll be amazed at what's in them. The problem I find with some of those small packages of flavored coffee (ie Millstone) is that they don't list what flavors are except for 'natural and artificial flavors', which could be anything (including sugars). Just be aware. Personally I prefer making my own straight then adding flavor to preference...one of the reasons I started diy was to know what was in my juice..not just toss the dice ;) :2c:
