Like chocolate, I've had a hard time finding a great tasting coffee flavor, so until now I haven't created a coffee vape that I could thoroughly enjoy.
I gave in to the urge, and made my own extraction. I put a heaping tablespoon of ground beans in a jar with 25ml of PG. I put the jar in a small simmering (not boiling) pot of water for 20min. I strained the grounds out with a napkin, and was left with 5ml of very dark but very tasty coffee flavoring (I'm sure I would've gotten more had I let it sit and drip overnight, but I was just in a hurry to try it as I didn't have high expectations). I mixed it at 7% with some caramel and toasted marshmallow and it's delish! I'll definitely go a bit higher on the % next time because it tastes like a weak macchiato, but it's still yummy and I'm glad I finally did it! No bitterness, and no burnt coffee taste.
As easy as it was, I'm going to try the same process with some green tea and some of the vanilla hazelnut coffee that I have.
I guess letting it steep might make it a bit stronger as it has with my purchased coffee flavors, only time will tell lol. ;)
If you're looking for the perfect coffee flavor, try this! It seems only natural as DIY is about getting flavors that are perfect for each of our own varying tastes, why not make a coffee flavoring out if the coffee you choose to drink every day? ;)

Sounds like a great idea, Thanks PA :) . I wonder if you put in a Krups style filter (cone shape) in the jar and rubber banded it around the top if it would come out as good and just be able to pull out the grounds instead of straining. I'm always looking for the easy button

Cheers,
Steve

You're welcome! I was so impressed I just had to share. :)
I would've used a coffee filter if I had one, but I have a keurig so I ditched them long ago (silly me).
I just put the napkin in another bottle with the center sort of "coned" down into the jar, then I put a rubber band around the top o the jar to hold it there. Then I just put the PG/coffee ground mixture in the napkin and let it do it's thing.
I'm all for easy, easy is good lol!

There's some loooong coffee extraction threads around, (don't have a link..:() The flavored coffees were frowned upon as the flavorings tended to be coil cloggers..YMMV

I've been using the FA espresso for my coffee flavor, good strong black coffee flavor and add in additional flavors as the mood strikes me. An extraction sounds like a great idea but my lazy side usually wins....

Seems like a very easy procedure. I've extracted tobacco which is a bit more work but using the same principle and was happy with the taste but it distroyed my coils. I've got to try this because like you I can't seem to find a decent coffee flavor. I'm kinda wondering if wraping the coffee into a little ball in a coffee filter or a thin cloth materal and just letting it steep in warmed PG over night would work, kinda like a teabag.

I was thinking there might be some "undesirables" in the flavored coffee, that's why I didn't use it first. Was gonna google info on it, thanks for saving me some time lol.

It truly wasn't hard to do at all, and I love having the flavor of my favorite coffee to the "T" to make my coffee vapes now, besides the fact that it was practically free since I used stuff I already have in abundance lol. ;)

I actually did consider steeping it like that first, but I'm all for quick results when I can have them lol. I saw someone explain a similar procedure on another site and figured I'd simplify it and give it a go. Mine wasn't too strong as I mentioned, I wonder if a longer steep like your idea might make it stronger. I would assume you'd need a decent heat while steeping the flavor from the bean though just like when you make coffee. Teas don't really need as much heat while they steep. If you try that, I'd love to know the result. :)

Home brews will always have some oils and particulates in them that aren't in our bottles o'flavor. How bad they are for us is anybody's guess, but I'll still be using my home brew NET...:)

True. But even flavorings we buy have stuff in them that may not be safe. I probably won't use the other coffee I was going to (no need to push my luck), but I'm definitely going to continue making (and enjoying) my current coffee extraction.

I was thinking the same thing. I think longer steeping and higher heat would produce a stronger coffee flavor.

Coffee extraction has been done for quite a while now and I would have thought others would have voiced there opinions about the oils in coffee. I know there are oils that are OK such as natural essence oils and oils that are not good such as syntheticly produced oily flavor enhancers. I think the coffee's natural oils run along the same lines as essence oils. This is just an educated opinion and not a known fact so take what I say on that basis

Only thing I've ever seen mentioned is as a possible coil clogger, same as my NET, not as a particular hazard. No matter how I've tried to filter, they clog my cartos more than our 'normal' flavors....:)

Great Idea! what brand of coffee/beans did you use? did you grind them? if so how fine? Thanks!

Thanks!
Nope, like I said I'm all about easy and using what I've already got in abundance lol.
I used my Maxwell House French Roast. The next time I go shopping though I think I'm going to get some good freshly ground beans and see if it makes much of a difference.

Let us know how it tastes! I'll bet it will be stronger than my maxwell house so depending on your tastes, you may not even need 7% like I did. :)

Maybe try whole beans, brew overnight, put in fidge overnight in a oil separator let it settle and oils will come to top and sediment to bottom pour off slowly through 2 more coffee filters ?

Hmmm...I've let regular coffee sit in the fridge overnight for a cake recipe and didn't notice oil on top, but I wasn't really looking for it lol. If you try it let us know how it works out for ya. Too much work for this gal lol.
