Almost any of these builds can be done by hand, but it takes patience and skill, and with any type of coil you will wind up wasting some amount of wire before you get one that works the way you like it to (and wire costs money, too).

Do you have a cordless screwdriver (or can you borrow one from a friend)? You can get drill chucks for them, like this one:

@Aadavis94 Have you tried twisting your coils using a pen. Take your wire, double it over, hook it around the clip of the pen, grab other end with a set of needle nose/pliers, and roll the pen on your leg twisting the coil until it breaks. nice tight coil just as good as a drill.;)

Edit: Didn't realize you want to know about advanced builds. Eh, maybe this will help someone that's just looking to do a simple twisted coil without a drill.

Any of the more "advanced" builds will gunk up quicker, using juices that are known to gunk a coil quickly will only make it happen that much faster.

Sweet or dark juices, as well as juices with a high percentage of flavoring will gunk a coil fast.
Definitely agree on the sweet/dark/heavily flavored juices gunking up coils like mad. I will say that some crazy builds don't gunk up as fast as regular plain coils; from what I've seen, most of the coil builds that wick incredibly well don't gunk up that fast. My clapton coils stay cleaner for quite a bit longer than my simple coils. Alien wire, if you have the patience and spare 300 feet of wire, will stay super clean as well. Not sure if that makes it worth the extra time, but it's definitely a plus.

    LOL...that's brilliant!
I have drills but just have to try this when I need to make some more.

Simple twisting I use a pair of vice grips held over the ground, weight of the bottom vice grip helps keep enough tension, turning the bottom on and just holding the top one. Claptons, clamp a spinning swivel eyelet into a jewelers vice on my desk, vice grip at the other end, and use a pair of tooth jaw pliers, pulling tension with the vice grip, and let the wire ride in the groove of the pliers without much tension. Takes longer and you can real slow to get the wire nice and OCD tight.
