What a good way to get extra life from a coil? It's seems too small to rebuild and I've heard cooking them is not good.
^^^This. The silica might turn white or even glow. don't worry about it, it won't burn up. +1 on the rubber grommet. I've wrecked a few attys because of that.It depends on what your doing it on.
In an rda:
1) Remove the wick, unless it is silica, which will not burn.
2) Pulse the coil until red hot, continue to pulse for a few seconds to really burn all the gunk.
3) While continuing to pulse, blow on the coil to remove burnt off gunk.
4) Rewick the coil.
In most clearos:
1) Remove wick, unless silica
2) Pulse the coil very gently, blowing continually - hard. If it gets red hot you will more than likely scorch the rubber grommet, at which point you may as well throw away the coil.
3) Rewick

I wonder about the merits of soaking in water. Usually water contains an abundance of minerals which will fry an average smartphone, I dont see how this is any different when it comes to coils.
