I dont know if this would be necessary, but .....

Our atty's have a nichrome air core coil in them. I do not know if there is a current spike redirecting diode in the battery assemble for the resulting current spike when one lets off the power button. If there is not, this may assist in prolong the component life in the battery assembly. If someone does not understand this concept, and is actually is a position to implement this idea please respond with credentials and I will publicly post a quickie diagram to explain.

Inductive diode protection is intended to protect relay contacts and solid state switching components from the "back kick" associated with inductive devices discharging. Capacitors store energy, inductors store energy.

But the comment made abut the inductance of an atty coil being very low is true. There is hardly any inductance to speak of, the the inductive discharge kick is negligible. The diode is simply not needed in this case.
