I have just started having issues with my coils gunking up badly after a day or so of use, even on the first tank, fresh coil. It gives the juice a dark brown tint and clogs up the air flow. Have been DIYing for about a month and just happened upon this problem around the same time I began adding a drop or two of fresh lemon juice to my 10ml batches.

Tanks affected are Pro Tank II and mini pro tank, re coiled heads, 6 wrap, usually 2.5-2.8 ohm, with peaches and cream cotton, two strands flavors wick.

I can only assume this is the cause, just looking for confirmation and others experience with lemon juice and/or coil gunk issues. It's rather annoying and I'd like it to go away  Thanks in advance!

Higher cream or sweetner content will usually cause this. Have you dry burned your coils after cleaning them. I have this problem all the time with darkening juice and just clean and dry burn. You may also be running your atty to high. Try turning down the voltage.

Also if your not getting a burnt taste or flavor loss it's really nothing to worry about.

I use the t3's which are basically the same as yours and use 5 wraps of awg 32 and one 2mm silica through the coil and one above the coil. and some of my juices do discolor but I don't loose flavor or flow. I usually get a week out of this configuration.

I have read that it is not recommended to dry burn cotton wicks?

I think I'll cut back on the LJ and maybe try adding a little DW. Just got my shipment of 100% VG Nic in today as I am going to try out some zero PG base due to minor throat irritation I've been getting lately.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I don't use cotton I use silica wicks and dry them works just fine. I've never had a problem. They are far more heat tolerent.

If the clogging/gunking started about the same time as you started using high-vg mixes, then theres the issue. high-vg ratios can be too thick for certain attys.

I just got it out of the mailbox, haven't started mixing with the 100%VG base yet. It started around the same time as I began adding lemon juice as a sweetener.

Mine are all cotton, I don't really care for the taste I get with silica. That's why I asked, I heard it wasn't good to dry burn 100% cotton wicking.

What size drill bit would you advise for drilling out a pro tank II air hole for a little more air flow? Seem to be getting a tight draw with it, could use a little more air flow.

1mm or smaller. Essencially the smallest you can find that won't already fit through the existing hole.

With cotton wicks you take the wick out dry-burn the coil then put fresh cotton back in.
