This is based personal preference. In general terms:

Lower Ohm Coils Will:
  • Heat The Coil Faster
  • Produce More Vapor
  • Drain The Battery Faster
  • Use E-Juice Faster
  • Produce A "Warmer" Tasting Vape
Higher Ohm Coils Will:
  • Heat The Coil Slower
  • Produce Less Vapor
  • Provide A “Cooler” Tasting Vape
  • Use Less E-Juice
  • Prolong Battery Life

Hi everyone!

Recently i bought a ipv4s with kanger sub tank mini and started vaping. Keen on changing the coil to other brands. But what would be the suitable ohm level for the coil ?

Would appreciate any help ..
Hi mate,
Since you are using the IPV4s, as long as the resistance is between 0.1Ω-3.0Ω you should be able to use just about ANYTHING on the market today.
Have fun

First welcome to the site!

You asked a question that will result in hundreds of answers and opinions. I use the subtank mini but rebuild using the RBA section because it allows me to customize my vape and save a ton of money. Pre-made coils are expensive and need replacement. I enjoy a cool/slightly warm vape with a lot of flavor and vapor production is an afterthought. I normally build between 1.0 and .7 ohms in my subtank. When I'm feeling crazy :) I go to .5.

I have a friend that keeps the 1.2 ohm coils in their STM most of the time and has .5 around to blow clouds once and a while.

You should pick up a pack of each and try them out, find out what works for you. Premade coils sometimes fail and don't allow you to tweak your vaping style. Watch some video's on building and put the RDA section to use. I use mostly 26ga Temco wire (Kanthal) on a 3mm jig with pretty good results. If you have a VW device you can check your build or you can pick up an inexpensive meter. Personally I just use my device but I've been building a while and pay a lot of attention to safety when building.

These are estimates, YMMV ;)

26ga - Kanthal A1
3mm 5 wraps 0.82Ω
3mm
6 wraps 0.89Ω
3mm
7 wraps

27ga - Kanthal A1
3mm
7 wraps 1.1Ω
3mm
8 wraps 1.3Ω
3mm
9 wraps 1.4Ω

Good luck. The STM is a nice tank when it is set up correctly.

What many of us do (well, at least *I* do) is once I get a tank+mod setup the way I like, I start looking at other tanks.

While the STM offers many options (even more if you make use of the RBA that came with it. You can make Kanthal, Ni200 or Ti coils as well as experiment with different wicks and wicking material) there are other fine tanks on the market. Some of the tanks from different manufacturers use interchangable coils so you can use the same factory coils on a number of other tanks.

it's not all about the ohm! wicking is just as important! without a nice flowing wick, juice will be clogged up and you will end up getting hard dry hits. try a higher ohm build at a medium wattage and try see what your preference is. is it a nice cool slow vape or a hot dense vape (how I like it)???

hope we can all share info and help each other out to understand more about what we're actually doing.

    Vape on!

Yeah.. I have been wicking some organic cotton with a .5 coil.. Not too sure if my wicking is bad, i keep getting spitting juice and popping sound. Not having that problem initially when i bought it. Maybe will try a higher ohm coil to see .. Hmm..

I don't think popping sounds are a problem as it's just the juices coming in contact with your beautifully made coil! (haha!) A problem would be facing dry hits even after you just filled that baby up. that would probably due to hotspots or over wicking in your build. and rearding the spitbacks, try wicking your organic cotton with a "snug" fit and don't overfill it. just get it nice and saturated. Also avoid putting in too much cotton as it could choke the flow and prevent smooth vaping throughout. Hope this helps a lil!

    Keep Vaping!

is an easy number to remember.

The number you don't want to be at is: 0.

Most on my coils are 2 ohm.

Guess i have to keep wicking and find that correct portion and placing ! Thanks for your reply ! Vape on !

Guess have to build more coils to try which suits me most =)

the wire gauge is probably more important to look at

    use steam engine.

28 gauge kanthal has been the standard for a long time.

nowadays on rebuildables, maybe 26 is more common.
thicker wire will last longer and run cooler, but ends up lower ohms.
