and why would i want higher ohms? i tend to stay around 1.8

One of the main selling points about VV/VW is it allows you to use what you can get to enjoy what you like! It wasn't that long ago that it was a big deal to get ahold of 1.8 ohm carto's (which is all we had). Being able to adjust made it easier to use the 2.5 ohm, or whatever, carto's you had, or could get, and enjoy life!
VV/VW also allows you to suit needs/tastes as the day goes on. I don't Jones so much in the morning but at night I like more of a hit, so I can crank it up some, down some and don't have to change out toppers to do it.
The guide above is "suggested", keep that in mind. Some juices are better lower, some higher. Some people like it around 8 watts, me most times, some at 5 watts, some at 15 watts. This affords you the opportunity to switch it up to see what you like or don't like, without much hassle.

I use 3ohm cartomizers because they gunk up less with sweet flavors, as I mentioned above. With a VW device, I can use a higher voltage than what I would max out at with direct settings..I have a 3.3-5volt or 6-11watt mvp, and others that are 3-6volt or 5-15watt pvs. Using that coil at 9 watts is 5.2volts...6volts is 12watts with that same 3ohm coil.

Resistance with variable devices comes down to preference. Higher resistances, of same wire/build, heat up slower and are cooler, and also drain your battery slower. 3ohm has been my go to after discovering I get less issues with gunk build up..I'd sacrafice battery life for performance if I prefered lower resistances.
