Hi, I'm looking into buying a new tank for my blue evod battery. I was either going to buy a kanger protank or a kanger evod rebuildable tank with 5 replacement coils. I was more leaning towards the evod tank because of the low cost, and the fact that I could get a 5 pack of extra coils with it. I wouldn't be using any acidic juices or any that would crack plastic tank. The only reason I would want the protank is because of the nice look to it. I like that its has a clear glass dome so I can see my juice, and I also like the stainless steel part of it:D!! So I would like 2 questions to be answered: Which tank would you recommend to a new figure in vape community, and how long on average should you replace coils(would 2 coils last me a couple months)? I smoke to an equivalent of 1 - 2 cigarettes a day, and I used max VG blend or 20/80 pg/vg. I mainly use e cigarette because I am fond of big smoke clouds, and I use it to loose weight (lost 11.3 lbs from blu e cigs, by cutting down desserts, treats, and snacks and substituting e cig). Thanks for any feedback!!

There really isn't anyway to say how long a coil might last you. With higher VG juices, the Protank(or Evod) coils lives will be shortened, but it just depends on too many variables, such as how much you vape, the voltage you vape at, etc... There isn't any hard and fast answer as to how long they will last in my opinion. I change coils around once every 2 weeks to a month. However, I have a few Protanks going at once. The other variable is that sometimes you get a dud or one that doesn't last very long.

Personally, I have been taking advantage of the low prices you can find the Protank at due to vendors wanting to get rid of them before the Protank 2 comes out. Kanger is also moving to eliminate the Evod heads and simply putting out Protank heads since they are interchangeable. Many vendors have reduced prices on Evod heads to get rid of these as well.

Get both! The evods are dirt cheap and you can find the protank for under $12....the super cheap evod heads will work fine in the pro tank. I have bought one pack of replacement coils and when I change flavors I throw the used one in some water overnight. When they get a tight draw I do a dry burn and replace the flavor wicks. 3 months in and haven't had to trash one yet!

You could consider both, but the ProTank might look a little funny on the Evod battery. That's a nice delivery system, though.

I'd go with a matching blue Evod. If you're also getting replacement coils, go with something less than the 2.5 ohm that comes with it. With your Evod battery, you'll get a nicer cloud of vapor with either the 2.0 or 2.2 ohm coil heads.

As already mentioned, high VG liquids can gunk up an Evod coil in a hurry. You will need to clean the coil head with every tank, especially if they're also dark, rich juices. I have Evod coils that I've used for a couple of weeks by religiously cleaning them in hot water, letting them soak and air dry for a day or so. With one Evod tank and five replacement coils, you can always toss one into the bath after a tankful, replace it with one of the new ones and use it until the next filling. Then clean and store, put in a new one, et cetera, et cetera.

You might go for months without having to toss one of the old coils and get a new one or rebuild it.

I have four Evods and two MT3S tanks and what seems like 374,651 coil heads.

Thanks for all the answers/comments! I think I'm going to treat myself a new SMOKTECH EGO WINDER VARIABLE VOLTAGE BATTERY, and just get a evod rebuildable. Can any of you point me in the direction of the sites that your getting coils cheap and the protank for $12?? I was trying to order all off of mtbakervapor.com but I don't need to. If I don't get the variable battery (should I??), I will get protank and extra heads. The evod goes at a constant 3.7V. Will their be a difference of flavor and vape production between the two?

The site I want to go through only has 1.8 and 2.5, which one do you recommend?

Yes. This ^^^^^^^^^^. Good advice. If you do decide on the Protank, get either the P2 or the Davide Glassomizer. Bit better, imho. But, you can't go wrong with either of those two choices.

Can someone explain to an old fart why "they" keep recommending LR ranges on VV devices?

The 2.3-2.5 ohm stuff generally is tougher and lasts longer and produces a great vape at say 4.2 - 4.5 volts.

The 1.8 or 1.5 ohm stuff just burns out faster, IMHO.

P.S.
Bonus point pop quiz (pun intended): How do they make a lower ohm coil? (think about it)

If you're looking at getting a new variable voltage battery, consider the iTaste 3.0:

iTaste VV 3.0 - Variable Wattage Device - Pearl Chrome | Variable Voltage | MODS | iVAPE

Use coupon code "itastevv" for a 30% discount. Very nice, and far better than a Winder.

Fasttech has the best price on the Kangers. Discount Vapers has some good prices on the Protanks, coils, Davide's, mini, V2's, etc. You can find lower, but they have a good selection:

DiscountVapers.com - Search Results for "evod"

Check out Vapor Joe's for "deals,":

http://.........blogspot.com/

Or, GotSmok, for deals:

Sigelei ZMAX v5 APV (Advanced Personal Vaporizer) $57.94 | gotsmok.com

Good luck. Happy shopping. Best to you!

Do you do a dry burn with the original silica coil wick still in it? Thanks. JD

Thinner wire?

Bzzzz!
Lower ohm would be thicker wire. And that's one possibility. The other... fewer wraps of the same ga wire. Bet a lot of em do less wraps. (may totally depend on manufacturer though). The thicker wire would be tougher...but the LR stuff never held up as well for me...so I'm betting on less wraps/shorter wire. YMMV

Thanks! What gauge would you recommend for regular use with Protank coils on a Vamo? 32? 33?
I would be looking for about 2 ohms for the coil. JD

I use lower ohm coils so I can run the battery at a lower voltage. A 1.8 ohm coil at 3.7v draws about 2 amps. A 2.2 ohm coil at 4.4v would draw the same. The difference being that the regulator draws extra power to boost the battery to 4.4v, so the battery will last a bit longer with a lower resistance atomizer and a lower voltage.

^This^ I have a couple 400mAh Vision Spinners, and I run 1.8ohm coils in them at 3.8v. Difference in battery life is 6 hours vs. 4 with 2.2-2.4ohm coils - which HAVE TO BE RUN at 4.0v or above to get decent vapor.
