Coil/Wick change frequency

I am a fairly new to vaping, and was curious as to how long, on average, should a coil last? Now i understand that there are a lot of variables so here is a little info
-magneto mech mod (and yes i understand that this is an uprotected/ unforgiving mod)
-protank I&II (2.5ohms), or vivi nova dual coil (1.8ohms)
-efest 18650 1500mha
I would consider myself somewhat of a "chain vapor" when at home but only use at work while on breaks/lunch. Oh and i tend to vape a lot while driving, about 1 1/2 hours a day.

Wow, thanks didnt expect to hear a month, but will keep that in mind. When you say rebuild, do you mean building a custom coil or are you rebuilding the whole thing as in new gaskets ans such too? Sorry the Vivi's didnt work out for you, I'm liking mine so far. Like the bigger, warmer vape i get from it. Mine is a dual coil.

not a complete rebuild ,,just the wick and coil set up..i use eko wool for the wick and kanthal 32ga @ 3 1\2 wraps to hit 1.8ohms

my juice is 75PG so they take forever to gunk up

It's really going to vary. I don't use the Protank, I use the Kanger T3, but I can share that.

I'm a heavy vaper--10 ml per day--and rotate through 12 clearomizers. This is, perhaps, overkill.

Working it out, I can vape about 50 ml in any given tank before I'm displeased by the flavor (I DIY my liquid). By 75 ml, I'm kind of disgusted by the flavor, but I've pushed heads that far. On average, I change all the heads every 2 months or so, with 10 weeks not being uncommon.

So on average, heads last 2/12 months, or 1/6th of a month, or about 5 days--or about 50 ml.

So if you aren't quite the power-vaper I am, you'd get a boat-ton more time out of them. My mom uses the same system and gets two months out of a single head easily. She vapes 1 ml or less per day.

Lifespan will depend on your liquid (dark liquids tend to kill heads faster). Also, the voltage you use. If you're frying your liquid, you'll kill your head faster--I tend toward lower voltage of 3.6.

Rinsing your head in plain water occasionally will clean it out a little bit and extend the lifespan. I wash mine every tank. Ultrasonic cleaning in vodka, per reports, will extend it a bit further.

Ok so what is the difference in the T3, doesnt it use the same coil as the Protank? I have read about cleaning the coils with extremely hot water but have not done it yet. May need to get on the ball as i have a couple of dark juice's that have gunked up on some of my coils. Didnt realize it but you are right, the lighter color juices have not done it.

It seems they don't from a little research; the bases look similar, but are different. I could be wrong. If you ever go into rebuilding your own heads (at this point I recommend it if you have any interest as the rebuilt heads actually taste and work better), these are apparently easy to work with.

Cleaning's easy, just run them under the tap. I use cold water and it does help a bit.

And yep, the dark liquids seriously foul coils. My DIY blend is crystal clear and pretty much colorless, so I probably get more mileage out of my coils than some other people do. I'm also a stickler on flavor, so I'm probably also more intolerant of older coils than the average!

i understand where you are coming from, i was just curious what would be considered excessive, so I will be able to determine if i am frying coils too soon or are they at the end of their expected life span. but thanks anyway.

I drop my used heads in a filter set up in a coffee machine and let her rip. I take the coil apart first. The wicks come out white as brand new once they dry. I'm starting to rebuild as well. Saves more money in the long run.

I like that idea, will have to try that. I've got an old coffee maker sitting around........

I vape a very sweet desserty eliquid @ 7.5 watts and I get about 20-25ml before I need to replace/rebuild protank heads with silica wick and about 15ml with cotton wicks

I have had a similar experience to Morpheus with my EVOD & Protank heads. I can easily go 2 weeks without even rinsing. After that period, I let them sit in vodka overnight followed by a hot water rinse about once per week or whenever the vapor production declines. Eventually they won't make it more than a day or 2 so I will try a dry burn which has only worked once for me. Other dry burn attempts ended up making everything taste burnt so those go in my "to be rebuilt" pile along with the 2 or 3 that won't fire anymore. I have swapped out the burnt silica wicks with cotton and it works better than the original silica but only for a week or so.

Cotton can't be dry burned and it really hangs onto whatever flavor last used & I rotate through too many to try & remember which head goes in what tank so I just soak the cotton head in vodka, let dry, and put it in the rebuild pile. I tried to pull the cotton out and re-wick but the coil wire is too fragile by this point and breaks.

I DIY my own liquids--nothing dark and only one is sweet. The sweet one does require more frequent vodka baths.

how far do you tear them down? are you just pulling the top stem of,f or are you pulling the wick/coils out too?
