Hi all,

I smoke two packs a day. I've tried ecigs before to try to quit smoke (couple years ago), but ecigs just wasn't the same thing. It could get similar for a while, but then it leaked or I got dry hits, etc, so I always ended up back in regular cigs.

Recently I've decide to try again with new mods and sub ohm tanks. At first I got confused a lot as there's just too many different choices. Then I finally decided to buy an eVic-VTC Mini and an eLeaf Melo 2 atomizer (coils EC Head (0.3ohm) - EC TC-Ni Head (0.15ohm) - EC TC-Ti Head (0.5ohm)) and Samsung ICR18650-25R

I wasn't happy with any of the coils. Almost no vapour and very hot. I didn't give up, read something about being a mouth to lung smoker, how to get cooler vapor and decided to try Aspire Triton 2 tank (coils 0.5ohm clapton and 1.8ohm kanthal for mouth to lung).

Again, I really didn't like the sub ohm coil (hot / no vapour). However I loved the 1.8ohm - lots of vapour, throat hit and cooler vapour. I'm now regular cigarette free for 7 days for the first time in 20 years. Now I just want to get a "stable" feeling from vaping for a month or so before I start decreasing nicotine levels.

I've read about how ICR batteries are much more dangerous than IMR batteries and although I do use a regulated mod, I bought two new LG18650HG2 IMR 3000mAh batteries to be on the safe side. I've also discovered before ordering that I can use the same coils both on Melo 2 and Aspire Triton. In fact, I prefer the 1.8ohm Triton coil on the Melo 2.

Sorry for the long text, but in fact my question is quite simple. The 1.8ohm coils are rated 10W to 13W by the manufacturer. However my sweet spot is around 15w and up to 20W for some juices. From everything I've read, and I've read a lot, I'm on the safe side. At 20w, I'm vaping at 6.15v, 3.2Amps on a regulated mod with IMR batteries. I don't get dry hits or smell
burning, battery is cold, tank is cold unless I chain vape, which makes it a bit hotter, but very mild. Vapour is still very cool.

So, I'm I missing something here on going above the 13W recommended by coil the manufacturer? Is it safe?

Thank you.

The recommended coil rating is what the manufacturer suggests you vape at for optimal quality. Vape it wherever you like it, if you go too high you'll get a dry hit and know to turn it down, I've never gone off manufacturer recommendations on the coils, I always just play with the wattage until I get a spot I like, for example my .5 ohm Atlantis coils say 20-30 watts, I vape it at 50 and love it there.

+1 to what everyone above me said.

Just some clarification on the Samsung 25r's. They are INR (not ICR) chemistry. Basically an IMR/hybrid. => Battery Chemistry FINALLY Explained

Better than the LG HG2's, if you are going to be vaping 60+ watts.

If you are interested in learning more about batteries check some of @Mooch's battery blog posts.

Apparently I can't post links, but there's another thread on this forum that mentions the exactly same situation, with pictures included.
Samsung INR or ICR 18650-25R?

Listen to @Baditude (and his explaination). He's one of ECF's battery experts (along with Mooch). The Samsung 25r's are INR chemistry (as printed on the wrapper). Ignore what's on the packaging.

However, with re-wrap resellers (and their cells), don't believe ANYTHING you read with regards to the amps printed on their wrapper. They are notorious for misrepresenting their batteries' true specifications, and advertise specs much higher than their true specs when compared to independent bench testing.

Purple Efest Batteries: Not As Advertised

There are only a few battery manufacturers in the world who make their own "cells", including LG, Panasonic, Samsung, Sanyo, and Sony.

All the other brands on the market buy the second and third tier cells from those manufacturers and re-wrap them under their own brand. These are "second and/or third tier cells" which did not meet the higher standards of the original manufacturer. So, in order to compete with the original manufacturers' batteries (first tier), these other companies feel obligated to publish specifications which are inflated to make them appear superior to those of the original manufacturer. They are often more expensive as well.

* (AW is Andrew Wan, a former Panasonic employee who branched out to create his own "brand" of batteries. He allegedly has agreements with the major cell manufacturers to purchase first tier batteries from them. Not all batteries are created equal, so AW tests these batteries for quality. The best get chosen to be AW brand, and are re-wrapped as AW.)

Thank you.

you will probably vape higher wattage in winter than in summer.

the manufacturer recommendation is just a ballpark figure;
