Coils and Wicks 101

Are there any publication's that goes through the do's and don't of coils and wicks and all the different possibilities? Like the different coil wire materials (kanthal, stainless steel, nichrome, titanium) how the thickness, the inner diameter of the coil winding, the amount of loops (5, 6, 7 etc...) effect whatever. Then the wick material (Cotton, Rayon, Hemp, Silica, etc...). How it all plays out to make a discision of where your headed in your project. I have thought a RTA would suit my needs better than an RDA but from there........? Now I'm just using two Kangertech Subtank Mini's with 0.5ohm coil heads. One on a Kangertech Kbox Mini 50W and one on a Innokin iTaste CoolFire IV 40W. My new baby is a Sigelei Fuchai 200w TC Box Mod with a Sense Herakles Plus 0.2ohm. All of course take factory produced coil heads, any and all advice welcomed. Have been vaping about 6 months now. Started with a Vue then the NJoy battery with a Kangertech 1.5ohm tank (forgot which one without checking) Thanks to all my fellow Vapers. Glad to be free of those cigarettes Amen!

I only just bought my first one this week! It's a Kangertech Kbox Mini. The guy in the vape shop said it was the new model. Upon checking a friends, it's different. It goes up to 75W and had the option to change the temperature from 100 degrees Celsius to 300.

It came with three replacement metal parts. The one inside says 0.15 ohms on it. The readout in the screen says 0.23 ohms. The screen also says 0.00 volts. Problem is I don't know how to set it up. It bubbles and pops but the taste is nice and sweet and the cloud is thick so I'm not sure what's going on.

I just joined the forum and searched for my model by most recent posts and you popped up. So far you seem a lot more clued up than me.

Wow, a 75W Kbox Mini with TC, that's new on me last I checked they were up to 60W but never heard about any newer model. What I've been told Kanthal coils should be controlled by the wattage control and usually doesn't take high wattage well, burns the wick and taste like crap. With Ni200 (Nichrome) and Titanium you use TC. I run Ni200 0.2ohm at 225°C and the taste is great. Your Kbox does sound different than my 50W which I told not to go under 0.3ohm with that unit. I know I haven't helped but am pretty new at all this myself. Some advice if someone offers to sell you a Monster Cloud V2 RDA run for the hills, lol.

I'm running it on 42W at 200°C and it's popping like mad. It's also been leaking since yesterday.

Interesting that you can run it on wattage and TC at the same time? The mods I've seen it's either one or the other not both at the same time. I'm going to have to research that mod. With the leaking, your tank might not be screwed together tight enough and it's passing through one of the seals but don't over tighten it ruins the seals, it might just have a bad seal, the e-juice is too thin and the heat at 200°C is making it like water, numberous possibilities, try rebuilding the tank with new seals, don't over fill the tank. Kangertech Subtank Mini Clones leak like mad no matter what. I have one authentic and was passed off a clone and the clone leaks like mad while the authentic has never given me a problem. Nothing I do stops the clone from leaking sometimes worse than others, I'm using a RBA in it now with a 0.7ohm coil and it's not too bad.

With the popping, the higher I turn mine up the louder it pops, maybe the settings are too high for the coil, Kanthal can't function properly at high temp's. That's why I am surprised your unit runs on TC and wattage. Wattage usually runs Kanthal and S.S. coils and TC runs Nichrome, Titanium?

I just looked up your unit, looks just like the 50w unit. It stated that their TC unit supports all coil materials that it just needs to run with 0.1 - 2.0 ohm coils but 42w being 200°C I am not sure if that computes, have to check?

The only thing I can find out is your wattage X temperature X coil ohm combination might be off and you'll have to keep playing with it since nothing seems written in stone, different people like different combo's.

go to youtube and look for videos under topbox mini 75w tc. it's the kit rather than just the mod... but it's the same mod. you'll find a lot of helpful information on how to set-up your mod. gl
