Maybe I just have too much time on my hand or might be I love to experiment and searching for a new WOW from my tanks.
Going through the rebuilding supplies I bought years ago, I pulled out some silica and SS mesh.

First I snaked Silica Wick through the wick port and coil o0f a Kangertech .5ohm coil. I doubled the wick so it would fit perfect through the juice ports and coil. ( Used some 32ga. Kanthal as a snake. ) Cut excess , primed and screwed it on a tank.
juice had that taste I remember of the silica wicking. I vaped it for an hour and the tast never got any better. The coil I built was a 26 ga. 5 wrap on a 3mm coil jig. 1.0 ohm. Didn't want to go to low as the silica was used with 1.2 to 2.5 ohm coils back in the day, ( a year or so ago ) and figured .5 ohm might burn it up.

Next a rolled/twisted a 1" x 2" piece of SS mesh real tight. Cut off the 2" length until the OD ( outside diameter ) fit nicely through the coil heads juice holes. Torched the SS mesh for a solid 30 seconds ( used plumbing torch. ) Slid the SS mesh wick through the juice holes , and coil. An ohm test showed no short and read .80. ( same coil stats as above.)

Primed it, then screwed it on a tank. WOW--WEE,,,,,, I was blown away by the flavor, ( with in the first 10-15 hits ),,, cause after that I started getting a few dry hits. Its weird that It runs dry for no reason that I'm understanding. I chain vape it 3-5 big hits in a row, Real Nice Flavor and Vape Cloud,,,,THEN out of nowhere DRY HIT.
The build has leveled out at .9 ohms... I have the wattage at 22 to 24... I'm vaping 20/80 (pg/vg)

If anyone else out there played with SS mesh in these styled coils/tanks I'd appreciate any ideas and thoughts.

Another note: I had the air flow wide open in the beginning. After I posted this, I reached for it and got another dry hit.... I just thought to set it on the 1 air flow port instead of the 3!!!!

Though it's not as airy a hit as I would prefer, the last 20 hits were not dry. The Flavor has cut back a bit as well.
Another important note: I have no leaking what so ever, something I thought would be an issue.
But when I reach for it tomorrow morning will be the true test..... ( Hope I don't grab a slimy / sticky Eleaf at 7:00am,,,, ,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,

Update:
The problem with the SS wick when its submerged in the e-liquid is it turns the juice into a burnt color and taste.
Now I'm remembering exactly how the SS wick worked by bringing the juice up to the coil, away from the juice in the tank.
Although I had no leaks and many great flavored / decent cloud vape hits, I feel the problem stated above out ways the good flavor that's short lived with this set up.
Well I did get it to work ( without shorting or flooding. )
Maybe I'll dig out the old SS tank and try a sub-ohm build on it/ That might be my next post, lol.
