Apologies in advance as I don't have a full grasp on vaping terminology. Please feel free to correct as needed.

My grand plan was to rebuild the coils in my Kanger POS Mini Protech 2 - I'd consumed YouTube videos like a .... and thought that I'd be The Most Awesome noob once I got it down.

Well that POS tank is gone gone gone, and now I'm digging my Mini Nautilus, but, damn. Am I committed to months of expensive coils? (We all know it's just a matter of time before I go bigger and better :vapor:

The first coil is still going strong after a couple weeks of heavy use, but I'd like to at least have the option of rebuilding rather than buying.

Help a a sister out? Even if it's bad news.

Many thanks to all who help us investigate this awesome new world.

JNOV, if you are using an Aspire Nautilus (not an Atlantis), the coils are really hard to rebuild -- they're very tiny! The BVC coils for the Nauti aren't horribly expensive - especially compared to what many of us spent on our analog habit. Vendors have sales and coupons frequently; I can get 5 BVC 1.6 coils for under $13, and each one lasts about 2 weeks. Good luck in your vaping journey, and welcome to ecf!

I'm concerned about the flaking ceramic bits some people are talking about (I haven't seen any yet), plus I like taking things apart. When I bought the starter kit, the vape shop dude said the wick was cotton. Er. Kinda, I guess. I'll play with this one until I'm ready to throw it at the wall. Then onto bigger an better, cuz that's how I roll.

ETA: Thanks for the welcome! Good group here :)

Cuz I'm a noob and have no idea what you're talking about.

The Nautilus mini is a fine tank. Other devices like the subtank mini and lemo are easier to rebuild and most people would say are better devices ( open to each persons opinion)

The nautilus is fine if you enjoy it and buying the replacement coils. If you want to rebuild then its not as nice as some other tanks out there.

Then you probably shouldn't try rebuilding yet, it's a more advanced area of vaping. You are talking about rebuilding pre made coils that were never intended to be rebuilt, only replaced. They are generally going to be harder to rebuild than a RTA, because the RTA was intended from the start to be rebuildable.

Atomizers like the Lemo, Kayfun, Russian, Squape, etc...are designed to be rebuilt.

Any cotton wicked tanks?

I replaced the silica wick with cotton in my Kanger ProTech Mini 2. Much better taste. I didn't rebuild the coil; I just took off the chimney and used tweezers. My issue with the KPTM2 was that it was leaking like a sieve and no amount of new coils or O rings could save it.

From watching YouTube videos, I learned that people rebuild coils, but I didn't realize that there are tanks made specifically to be modified.

ETA: Awesome name, BTW.

I tried rebuilding the nautilus mini and I couldnt get it not to flood and spit. I think the coil was too wide in diameter. Ill have to try again. I rewicked it like 5 times and came to the conclusion that the coil I used was not going to work.

See? I dig this, too. Sit, focus, mess around a bit, take a break if it gets too frustrating - I like these challenges. I appreciate your sticktoittedness (yeah, I know).

Lol
We all start somewhere.
Your in the right place

Something i like to remind people of.
Just because a certain head CAN be rebuilt it doesnt necessarily mean they were designed for that role.
And in some cases can be more trouble then they are worth.

So it is worth keeping in mind that instead of banging your head on the table fussing with something like this if you truely have the desire to build then buy an atomizer with that express purpose, it will be more rewarding in the end.

Thanks. I was raised fixing things rather than tossing them. I didn't realize that there are tanks that are designed to be rebuilt. Now that I know...

Many thanks!

If you want a real eye opener head over to here and see some of the stuff we rebuild, much to learn and geek out on.
Rebuildable Atomizer Systems
