Two reasons off the top of my head: one is that it allows them to make a parallel/multi-strand coil without having to run multiple wires to the contact points. The other is that they will use a non-resisting wire for the lead to the actual coil wire, which gives better control over the resistance with certain types of wire like nickel and titanium.

The welded ends are non resistant. These types of premade coils are used for rebuilding coil "heads" like protanks and such. The legs do not heat up like the resistance part of wire in the middle, and help with reducing the chance of melting rubber grommets (what holds those types of coils typicaly)

I use these wires to rebuild my Evod atties because I've read, and believe, that they conserve battery power in my little 650 mah ego/Evod batteries.
Most of the battery power used goes directly into creating vapor in the coiled area rather than uselessly heating the long legs in this type atty. Also makes the rubber grommet at the bottom of the atty last longer by not being exposed to so much heat.
