They can last anywhere from a day or 2 up to about a month. If they taste burnt they're done. If the draw is too much tighter than it should be, they are likely gunked up pretty bad and and they're done. If the flavor is too muted, they're probably done. It really depends on the type of coil, the type of juice, the wattage you run at and how much you vape.

I build my own coils but if I used drop in coils I would be more inclined to advise based on amount of juice rather than time frame.

When should you change your coil? "When in doubt..." If you think it might be time to change it, change it. What's the worst that could happen? You got a fresh coil when you didn't need to? Save the other one in a plastic baggie until you need it, again. Or just toss it 'cause these things are what, like a couple bucks? Sooner or later, you'll start to get a feel for it, and you'll begin to know the difference between the "time for a new coil" taste and the "my body has enough nicotine, so more is starting to taste kind of bitter, and it's time to put the vape down for a little while" taste.

I'm lazy when it comes to that stuff. I've gone too long thinking "eh, this isn't as nice as it should be" for days before I'll think "Oh, why not a fresh wick?"

Same goes for factory coils. When the taste is really shot, replace them. If you're really flush and can afford lots of coils, then replace them if the flavor is even a tiny bit off (but it will add up).

I'm the same way. Part of it is I'm still not great at wicking, so every time I do it's a crapshoot whether it'll be a good one or if I'll have to pull it out and try again. So when I do get a good one, I don't want to disturb it. So I don't do it very often, which means I don't get a lot of practice, which leads me right back to where I started. It's a vicious cycle. I should make it a point to do it more often.

I even have a spreadsheet for my tank setups so I can remember what juice is in which tank (don't type anything), when the last new coil was installed, and when I rewick. Now if I were smart I'd look at that list every so often and be reminded "oh, it's been about 10 days, how about wicking it?" But no, I never think to look and check the "sell by" date.

If your vapor is unpleasant for any reason, change it. If you can rewick, it may save you some $.

Agreed. Have a good look and see if there's a way for you to put some new cotton through the coil.
If you can. Take the old stuff out, dry burn the coil, then put a bit of cotton through.

Sounds as though you may not have some cotton lying about.

If you don't have any, you will have to buy some (dependent on whether you can), or buy an rba and learn to start building your own (sorry if you can but choose not to).
Last but not least, buy new coils.

What is the coil and atomiser you are using?
Any chance of a pic?

A spreadsheet? I'm impressed. I'm on the totally other end of the spectrum from that school of thought. I look at my coils and think I'm bored. Time to make new ones. There's always something new I want to try.
