Once you begin building your own you rarely go back to drop in coils.

While most of what I vape is on an RTA, there are times the sheer convenience of a drop in coil is appreciated. I've found that the newer mesh entries on the market like from Freemax, which I have, and Horizon by reputation, perform well and IME last a real long time. As in close to a month and a good 80 ml of commercial juice, not even my DIY that I rarely add sweeteners to.

It's all a tradeoff. Quality drop in coils are not evil, just a higher price for the convenience. Poorly made and widely varying QC are a problem with some coil manufacturers, but not all.

A that said, I've never been able to resurrect a used up drop in coil. Maybe an extra day out of it, but with all the time and effort spent cleaning it up negates the advantage of convenience in the first place.

I do! I like both almost equal! I'm struggling to find a word for my vapingness that doesn't start with S and end in T, but like I sometimes feel guilty like I'm cheating on my RTAs if I'm enjoying a drop in tank and vice versa, but I am STILL gonna do it. LOL.

It's not JUST convenience I like a lot of.... variety in my vapes. Once I got over "Lack of TC is going to kill me," well, I totally was like "THEY ARE ALL AWSOME."

I'm going to get more wholesome and just say that I love them all like a hoard of kids that I (thank god) did not birth and say what many moms say in those circumstances, "I love all of you the same, but in different ways." Well MY mom said that, and I will admit that when she said it, I always thought darkly, "Oh, you do not. You are a LIAR." But that is kind of how I feel about my vapes, and luckily the kiddo was a single so when I tell him he's my favorite kid in the world, and it's actually true. Etc.

If you use a T18 or T22 tank, you can absolutely clean and re use. They have more cotton in them than any drop in coil on the market. Below is a disassembled coil to show you. If you vape light liquids like simple fruits you can easily run 90-120 mls through them. Then remove the coil. You have to remove the silicone seal on top VERY carefully. There are dual heating elements in the coil, and the upper coil is close to the seal. Just take a paper clip, only go in very shallow and pop the seal out.
Simply put some extremely hot water in a bowl. Throw a handful of coils in. Swirl the bowl around aggressively for a few minutes, then let the bowl sit till the water cools. Repeat process, then leave them soak overnight. In the morning dump the bowl out and rinse with cold water. Blow through them , then put them on a paper towel to dry for a few days. You’ll get another 25-30 mls out of them. Don’t forget to pop the seal back in. Each washing process takes about 3 minutes. Total cleaning and rinsing time is less than 10 minutes . Make sure you let them dry.
Wait 6 months of vaping till you get a half dozen coils to do at once. Ten minutes of labor will then get you another 150ml or more of vaping at zero cost.
Results will vary if you use dark, complex flavors.

The standing joke between me and my wife was when one of our sons called I would tell her it was her favorite son. When I first did it she told me that she didn't have a favorite. Then she ask which one I thought was her favorite and I told her it was the one that called. As was her custom, she would do an exaggerated eye roll. 24 years of marriage allowed me to detect these subtle expressions.
When I was using the Nautilus tank, I would save and rebuild the drop in coils. Also, when I was first vaping I would clean my tanks every 3rd day. This also included cleaning the coil. I have also had experience making coils for drippers and mech mods. I wasn't too impressed with them as I either flooded the tank or burned the coil by not dripping enough. I have now moved into RTAs and enjoy the vape I receive from my Kayfun V3s and V5s. I have also moved from Kanthal to SS316 vaping at 25 watts with a .6Ω coil in my Kayfun V5.

You can get around it by just adding "favorite" to the end. Depending on who had heard "favorite' last I would just tack on, " You are my favorite of all the favorites," or even "of all my favorite favorites, you are my total favorite."

Yeah it mangles the definition but people usually get confused or just look at you like, "Ugh. You suck. You suck so much, I'm not even going to take this up with you."

Actively playing favorites since 1974.
