Theres probably a thread like this already, but i just wanted to share a minor victory. I recenly got myself a limitless+ rdta. It came with a pair of prebuilt claptons which ive used for about a week. The guy at the vape shop threw in a couple pairs of plain kanthal coils for freebies. I changed out the coils for the first time, and did a decent job of wicking. It actually worked. Kinda proud of myself, and the clouds are immense and thick. And it seems like the plain wire kanthals work better for me than the claptons. They rang in at .12 ohms and im hitting them with 75 watts. Very nice. So goes my first shot at building. I will start winding my own coils soon as i wear out these kanthals.

Update!! Apparently my wicking techniques need more practice. After about an hour of vaping the rdta this morning, the wicks actually burst into flame. I vape in wattage mode and was using 75 watts. So, first thing i thought, thats a little bit too high...and dropped down to 65 watts. Same thing, burnt moustache flavor. Im all open to advice at this point now, lol. Limitless + on a t-priv. For now, i put the big baby back on till i figure this out. Wow, what a surprise, huh?

Your wicks caught fire? Are you sure? Also, what exactly were you doing (and doing just prior) to this happening? Were you using it as a dripper? Chain-vaping it? Did you get a dry hit beforehand? I'm just a bit confused by this happening, unless you were using it in dripper mode and just let the wick get really, really dry?

No dry hits. Using it as a tank, which wss half full. I pulled the cap off and fired it while watching. Again both wicks burst into flame. Im still a bit new to vaping but i surely didnt expect this. Oh, and not chain vaping. Im thinking maybe the wattage is to high for these single wire kanthal coils. Gonna re-wick it later and drop the watts considerably. Though, the wicks look pretty saturated, not overly so, i dont suppose. It was working fine last nite and this morning until i vaped my moustache.

Well, perhaps the wattage is a little high yes. You're probably going to have burnt mustache taste until you break that tank down, rewick, and also take apart your tank and clean it (dry burn your coils prior to rewicking and make sure that there's no gunk trapped under the coil.

I'm not sure if I should be giving you these instructions, but may I suggest gently, slowly priming your next, ah, thing, and sloooowwwllly working your wattage up to where you get a decent vape but one that isn't so warm you are able to spontaneously combust your wicks. (Are they cotton, or are you using something else?).

This is still a vast mystery and if it were me, I might have a little trepidation with continuing forward, but hey, it's your mustache. I suppose if I had one, I might want to get rid of mine, too.

Believe it or not you can get a dry hit off the limitless with the tank full. I know all to well.

Sounds like (if they actually lit up) it had too much cotton and wasn't wicking enough.
Sounds crazy, yeah, but belive me, they really lit up. Too much cotton, too little cotton, im not sure. But ill get it right, and test run it several times before i put the cap back on and vape it again, thats for sure.

This is usually caused by wicking not keeping up with your wattage, make sure your wicks are not getting choked where they push through the deck also try alittle less wick.

VG can combust in the right conditions, I doubt its done you any harm but its best to try and avoid it happening too often.
