I have started to think this is an industry in its infancy. So we are on the forefront of the technology in it. If I only Collected video game systems and old computers when they were new I would be rich enough to retire a buddy of mine sold an old computer in its original box sealed to a museum in CA for 20,000 dollars they found it in an attic when he moved into a new house. So what about us should we be buying this stuff and leaving it sealed in its original boxes in there cute packages especially the hot items that really work well I'm 40 and plan on retiring at 65 thats 25 years of getting old our gear is pretty cool now but imagine what they will be vamping off of in 20 years look where we have come from . Just a thought what do you think ? what would your take be on this ?

It's interesting. People collect anything and everything. A 30 year old computer is worth nothing today for someone who wants to use a computer, but someone was willing to buy it for $20k.
It's really up to you. It's your money and your the one taking the risk. Compare this to buying anything else as an investment and ask yourself what product will be worth more down the road.

I have a friend that bought collectibles for YEARS, thinking they would rise in value. The pieces he has are now worth pennies on the dollar on the open market.
All investment is a risk, I don't buy things with future value in mind, I buy them with their current usefulness to me in mind.
Now, if I could find an Elvis plate to vape on, we might talk.

Look at "Hot Wheels" (one example) they may sell for thousands, if you have the right one.
Maybe is someone has the first model e-cigarette... Not much made today is collectable...
IMO vaping is too niche of a market and too polarizing with FDA regulations and everything for any pieces to be considered a collectible or at least rise in value.

A bar of gold will always be worth a bar of gold. A 25 year old Kayfun 4 will only be worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I can see that there may be collectors seeking a few items here and there, but I wouldn't expect an auction at Sotheby's.
I spend my money collecting memories. Worth more to me than any thing...
Don't get me wrong, I apparently collect e-cig "stuff", but because it pleases me, not for its potential future value.
I made a crap_load off selling Beanie Babies...laughed all the way to the bank. If I want to double my money - I fold it and hand it to my penny pinching hubby...When he hands someone a dollar, there is green ink on his fingers.
To think of how many Bobby Orr rookie hockey cards I ruined on the spokes of my bicycle as a young kid trying to make it sound like a motorcycle. 
Yeah I just sold my friggin ihybrid on the classies for less than 40% of its original value and it was in mint condition, and i included a battery.
Maybe certain mods will appreciate in value in the years to come, but probably not for a long time, and even then, I'm thinking first runs of original designs that set a standard that changed the face of vaping from that point forward. Like an original Genesis mod, an original never used cigalike, or perhaps a screwdriver, darwin, or provari.
Crap like 99.9% of mechanical mods, vv/vw devices, etc? Nah. Probably won't be worth anything to anyone. Kinda like a 10gb hard drive is today. Sure, it's retro, but not worth more than a dollar to anyone, ever. MSRP on one of those suckers was sky high.

Mods were selling for ridiculous prices. As DGM has stated the resale hasnt been very good. The market has been flooded with thousands of metal tubes that hold batteries. One being worth thousands seems a little unrealistic. To me its only worth anything if it gives me a good vape.
My MVP2 was the single best mod I have ever owned... I have no use for it whatsoever... It will be a gift for a friend or I will keep it in my car as a back up battery for my phone. I cant imagine putting it back in the box and waiting 20 years to see if I can sell it for 1000$.
Time will tell I suppose... I know I wont be buying and authentic 2012 CE4 clearomizers
I think value is in the eye of the spender. When I started vaping I didn't get into it for the collectable aspect of it. In my 1st 3 months of vaping I'd already spent 3K. I dont think a thing I have is going to be worth anything to anyone in 25 years. If nothing else, the EGO may be the most remembered cause it's what started for many of us, our path to the poorhouse! 
And now most of those Beanie Babies are in the $1.25/lb bin at the local Goodwill.
