Verwandlung,

Pardonnez-moi, votre nom de plume m'a trompé. Je suis également à seulement un Mexicain qui parle un peu d'allemand parce qu'il vend des voitures Volkswagen. ;-)

If I ever start making my own juice, you will surely hear from me again!

It's not that difficult at all, certainly not nuclear fission, just a bit of very pedestrian cooking. Not even alchemy! The reason I decided to try my hand at it was the virtual impossibility of getting any NET here in Mexico. Wanting something that really tasted of (pipe) tobacco —something now I realize is the mithical holy grail ov the vaping round table– I sat through some very boring videos in U-tube and read what I could on the forums, which is a fair wealth.

Got me one liter VG locally, another PG online from Mexico City which reached me in one day and then some liquid 100mg nicotine (quite expensive BTW) from a vape vendor in Monterrey (The Mexican city, not Monterey CA). That and some kitchenware that my wife reluctantly allowed me put me on track.

Surprisingly, my first attempt tho it tasted like the proverbial dog refuse just out of the filtering process, improved tremendously over the next two weeks and right now I'm lamenting not having made a larger batch. As I mentioned, it's pure SG Perfection and though it's a pale shade of the original weed, it's miles ahead of anything commercial, honourable exception made for the three I mentioned which are firmly in my rotation (a true pipe smoker concept, no? <ggg>)

Now, what kepps me experimenting is that I'm developing a taste for the aromatics (e-liquids, not tobaccos). The tea infusions came out delicious albeit a bit weak in flavor, something I corrected by judicious addition of some vegetal flavorings purchased locally for pennies.

Now I'm experimenting with more agressive cocktails, yesterday I made a small batch of something that came out real tasty, made of natural cofee hot-extracted in pure PG, plus some mint flavoring and sweet almond oil from the neighbourhood drugstore, it's used as an ear canal lubricant <LOL!> but tastes good and it's a 100% natural product. The aroma is unbelievable but the taste is even better.

Right now I'm drying by the kitchen window some orange peel that I plan to make into a sort of Earl Gray vape. Go figure!

Again welcome to the community, of which I'm only a lowly but eager newcomer. Good luck with your quest. Keep in touch.

Best,

Jorge.

PS, another reason to keep at the DIY is the cost. While the local price for a 10ml bottle of juice is Mx$80~120 or about US$6~9, my 50cc batches come out at about Mx$10 (~US$0.75) in the worst scenario. Cheaper if I don't use expensive teas or tobacco.

conradj,

how does your extract compare to the pipe weed in taste?

It's quite a different animal. Remember there's no riddance of the VG/PG taste. I've tried to make them very dilute by adding up to 25% 50/50 vodka/distilled water, all the time fearing I'll get drunk or not pass the alcohol test if a cop stops me <vbg>; however, the taste is definitely of tobacco.

I guess if you chewed the weed it would taste somewhat similar, and with the proper steeping it gets better. Bear in mind it's a Balkan style blend so it's not even for every pipe smoker, specially those weaned on Cav's and Danes. It's, not unlike the original, quite strong and spicy.

The one I consider a true success is a very sweet albeit strong Black Cavendish that I've kept for almost untouched for a couple of years. That one came out of the kitchen tasting real nice and it's got better over the weeeks. I touched it up with some drops of mint and it's not ony tasty but has a superb room note.

I wonder why people assume a pipe smoker might care about a so called pipe mod.

For people who smoked pipes I think you'd be more interested in DRIPPING, and in DIY eliquids.
Probably because a pipe smoker knows that the tobacco is only half of the equation. The feel of the pipe in the hand, the look of it, and the routine is the other half.

i come from pipe smoking too, and am also new with e-cigs. i've found my habit of taking many tiny little sips pretty completely ingrained, and it's a way of smoking that doesn't seem to work too well with the vaping equipment i have, eGo clone batteries and various BCC bits. Not much flavor. Easy to get dry hits.

Is there equipment more suited to tiny little sips? Does one need to build it by making coils and wicks a different way in a rebuildable atty? i have a Taifun GS clone on order.
Honestly, for what you describe, a mechanical with a low oHm coil (1.5 oHm or lower) or a variable voltage device with the voltage turned down low combined with a dripping atomizer is probably going to be your best bet. An alternative might be a carto tank setup with extra punched holes, though that invites flooding the atomizer. You might also want to look into a bottom feed device, like a REO.

Vaping (on most standard setups) works best by taking a long, slow, light inhale. You might just have to break your habit. Good Luck!

o my. i love the dark stuff myself, tho like them better when there's the brightness of a good virginia in there to multiply the tastes. Heavy English mixes, Balkans, love'm. Love them more when they're complex. Like burleys too. Anything really, except for aromatics, not because i don't like those as well but they burn my tongue something awful.

i guess i'll have to follow your example and try making my own soon e-liquids, once i get proficient with the equipage.

Amen to that. ... Altho, i must confess the part abt cleaning out the pipe afterwards, that's not my favorite activity. Espesh if it's a bad aromatic and i have to run alcohol thru the pipe to clean the stink out. .... Altho, even with pipe cleaning there's something nice abt the nicotine heavy smell of burnt and sweet tobacco from the carbonized bits, that remains pleasant in memory, if not in the moment.

i seem to be conditioned to believe that one gets the best flavour out of smoke when it's taken in a bit at a time and explored with tongue and nose. o well. i'll try what you recommend with a dripper at low volts.

--i'm also interested in microcoils now, in that they fire up quick. That seems suitable for small sips.

I had a pipe; hardly ever used it; where I live pipe tobacco isn't something you pick up in the grocery.

In my case, and I imagine for many pipe smokers, pipe smoking has nothing to do with style or 'feel' of pipe in hand etc;

Smokeing a pipe is the real thing.
If you don't have a pipe, you can roll the tobacco leaf and smoke it that way.
A cigarette is just a poor man's version of a cigar, and you tolerate the paper in exchange for the convenience.

I have customized some pipe mods. It is alot of fun seeing what can be made from them.

I smoked cigarettes for about 17 years. Then 3 years after that I smoked a pipe. Have roughly $350 in pipes. My son-in-law was vaping one day and I asked him questions about it, and about a month later I was vaping also. I've been vaping an aero tank on an eVic and a pro tank 2 on a vision spinner. I would never go back to smoking now I can't stand the smell of cigarettes or any smoke. I feel bad people had to smell smoke on me for so many years.
