Yes. She is very spoiled in that regard--she gets to cuddle and hold hands, basically any sort of show of affection, whenever she wants. She's already having the sorts of emotional issues that 10 and 11 year olds have; she started her "goth phase" right around her sixth birthday We are afraid of the "Geeze, not in front of my friends" at any time and are expecting the "I HATE YOU!" teen-angst/persecution phase by the time she's nine or ten; she already has so much angst and is such a drama queen now. But she is still awesome.

And I'm working to minimize the problemetrics of the teen years as much as I can. When she says "I love you," both her mama and I say "I love hearing you say that because by the time you're 14 you'll be saying "I hate you." (She's already told her mother a secret "Sometimes I think that now, but I never mean it.") And once when she was saying she'd never act like that and I told her that everyone acts like that sometimes during their teens, she looked at me solemnly and said "I won't. I watch TV--I know it won't work."

I've known a couple of kids who actually didn't go through that phase, but it's fairly rare. I'm just choosing to take an active role in trying to avoid it--if she doesn't go through it I can pat myself on the back and if she does I can always say "I tried my best." Right now we're encouraging her individuality and pointing out the pitfalls of following the herd; and I'm trying to instill in her a subconscious belief that the whole "persecuted teen" thing is simply following the herd

My dad's nickname for me while growing up was "sh.thook" (thank god he stopped calling me that before I got to high school), but he was always there when I needed him.

My mom...well... One day I got home from school to find a huge, oddly-shaped trash bag sitting in front of the door to my room. I looked inside it to find it was full of multi-coloured, perfectly round wadded-up paper. I unwadded one of the balls and found one sleeve of London Calling. I went through the whole bag and found every sleeve for every record I owned--and nothing else. When I went into my room nothing was askew. So I checked out my records and every disk was in its proper jacket (though double albums were sometimes reversed), sans sleeves. "Uh, mom..." "I haven't even been in your room today--are you calling me a liar?"

I suppose you can guess which one I'm closer to

Begin Rant Now.......

Ok Ripple...I just gotta say I am soooooo sick of all the valentines day crap. Yeah I am truly happy for someone that is in love and all but hey guess what...not everyone wants to be or is in love! It's making me cranky and now I am depressed. Someone in another forum asked what it would take to complete you just for today....that just got me thinking about all the things that I wish I had that I don't....and the funniest part is that until I read the post I didn't remember what I was missing! Does that make sense......gee thanks buddy ( although I do genuinely like the guy who wrote this). So I am trying to stay positive and think about all the LOVE THINGS that I do have but darn......I HATE VALENTINeS DAY! I hate feeling like I am not complete cause I do not have a significant other....then I wonder what the heck is wrong with me cause I remember when I did have one and was miserable. So All in all thanks world for another holiday that once again makes me feel inadequate.
