Win 7 has a much cleaner and stable core, handles VM's much better than vista or XP. Compatibility is decent and most major software is patched or has compatibility workarounds. Keep in mind that there is no classic view so you may need some "reversion" tools. I have found that Actual Mulltiple Monitors is the only windows and taskbar manager that works for display seperation and icon isolation. Classic shell will give you old school menu's for explorer and the start bar, but by holding shift and clicking you can use the new ones. Takes a little tweaking, but anything better than a low end dual will show improvement.

I respectfully disagree, sort of. My primary computer is a "low end dual" laptop and my secondary is an Asus netbook (a low-end single-core Atom)--and both show marked improvement with 7 over XP. I obviously have not tried "everything," and I have heard of plenty of hardware that suffers under 7, but nothing that I have tried personally has not run at least as well under 7 as XP.

My daughter's computer is an eight-year-old home brew based on an AMD Athlon 3000+ (2ghz single-core) and it runs better under 7 than it did under NT5.0, and that's using a video card ATI stopped supporting before XP was even released...

not only do we have a new baby in house & have hardly slept since sun night ....

I went to bed @ 6 am this morning & hubby got up to take a kid to school @ 7am
& somewhere in that hour someone STOLE his Newest TRUCK ...like they were outside just waiting for me to go to bed !!

...my 'puter was reformatted last night for the 3rd or 4th time since the nephew got a virus for me in june ...
I swear whatever "it is" it is a mean one ...works for awhile ...then it just starts doing windows errors till it locks up ...grrrr
& I still like XP , hubby says that 7 has been oversimplified & hard to customize/get to stuff on ...IDK ? all I know for sure is that I do not need any more 'puter issues than I already have so I don't even wanna try it .

...& HEY Congrats on 1000 posts in the thread !! I am SO GLAD that this thread has been so successful when I had the stray thought for this thread & posted , I had second thoughts that maybe I had misspoken etc & was gonna hurt your feelings ,about needing a place to whine etc...& you were not posting (cuz U were out ) but I did not know that ...& was worried that I had offended ya' & HEY that was 3 months ago today !

Hi all ... truck found ...broke & abandoned,towed & impounded ,but found YAY !
thief hit something, popped tire, drove on rim awhile & then ditched it on highway
& they broke gear shifter & park break ??

they had a kid we guess,cuz they left a melted pop-cicle in center console & kids socks & jacket ...
they chain smoked a pack of camels,filled ashtray,had choc milk ....

another oddity is that everything that was in the cab,was thrown into bed ??
IE: paper work,cd's & the took everything out of the tool boxes ..jumper cables etc..



just so weird ...they even (had to) put gas in it
