compatibility of cartridges- sedansa/e-sig ?

This is not about Sedansa specifically, but cartridges in general. Does anyone know if the white cartridge stuffing (I don't know what to call it) is supposed to actually touch the little heating element in the atomizer?

Sometimes when the atomizer quits smoking, I pull the white stuffing out a tad. This usually gets the atomizer going again, but I always worry that it might get too close to the heating element and burn.

Thanks so much, Mark. It's a little hard to believe that I do not personally know another person who has ever used an e-cigarette. In fact, I've never even met anyone who knows what they are. It's going to be interesting to see how soon this is going to take off here in the U.S. In the meantime, thank goodness for the old experienced hands on this forum....those of you who have been at this for more than 3 weeks, like me.
