Re that first article: Clinical research pertains to whether treatments for diseases work. This is not our concern as defenders of our rights to smoke/vape. And that compilation of old cherry-picked quotes in that first article included plenty from charlatans who eagerly published outright fraudulent epidemiological research, such as Marcia Angell.

The second article, by Brian Carter on Carl V. Phillips' blog, is excellent and directly relevant. It describes political corruption of "public health" research that has existed for decades. This is exactly how they've cranked out their vaunted "mountain of evidence" against cigarette smoking all these many years, and it's no surprise that those ideologues have simply redirected the same corrupt system against smokeless tobacco and e-cigs.
