Complete Vape Noob in need of advice.

First let me say thank god I found this forum. :)

Hey everyone. A complete noob to the vaping world here.

I've been vaping for about six months now. While on "analog's" I was smoking almost two packs a day for about 15 years. For the past 6 months I've been vaping. But I'm in need of some new hardware advice on which way to turn and I'm not sure where to go from here.

I started off by going with Halo's G6 (Jet Black Electronic Cigarette Kit) and Torque56 juice. Over the past 6 months I've managed to slowly wean myself down to the low nicotine juice. I eventually want to get nicotine free, but the hardware isn't at all helping me with this and it's making me insane and frustrated. I almost threw in the towel several times and went back to analogs but feel like I've come this far there has to be something else.

Let me get out of the way that this thread is in no way intended to bash any products or the company whatsoever. It's more then likely a noob issue or learning curve on my part.

With that out of the way, let me get to my problem. The problem for me is that somehow the Halo batteries are going for me. I've read that it's probably because of the liquid getting down into the batteries and board. I went through two starter kits already. And I'm now on my 4th pass-thru battery. The batteries died too quickly on me and I spent more time waiting for the damn things to charge then I did using them. With the pass-thru's I never have to worry about dying batteries. Only ensuring that there is a USB port nearby (which makes this a bit much but so be it).

My 4th pass thru unit is now dying on me and I'm ready to throw in the towel with these. I've been searching and reading what I could on the forums here.

But can anyone please recommend to me a good, durable, long lasting battery, tank system? It seems like the market has become flooded with devices now I have no idea on where to turn.

Thanks in advance for any help & advice that they can lend a noob.

Welcome to ECF.

First off, does it have to look like a cigarette?

Second, do want something large that takes a large battery or do you want a battery unit like the passthroughs?

eGo makes a passthrough I think. It wont look anything like a cigarette more like a black cigar. About the size of a sharpie.
Volcano Inferno is also a passthough battery setup. I have one these and they come in several colors.
If you want VV and inexpensive eGo Twist or Vision Spinner would be the way to go.
These non -cig-a-like model batteries will last longer. I get a day and a half out of a 900mah battery. I get better than 2 days on my Vision Spinner 1300mah.

Throw a Kanger T3 or a Vision Vivi Nova on them and your good to go. Note: Kanger T3 will not fit on a Volcano Inferno unless you get the 510 - eGo adapter.

I'm fairly new to the more advanced set ups, started with the cigarette type setups, to the ego line, and now onto a Provari with a ZAP :) I wish I wouldn't have spent so much money on the junk and just jumped right in from the beginning.
So I guess it depends on your price range....already have some good suggestions above. Alot of people recommend the ego c twist as a middle step. The Provari has a one year warranty and after that they will fix it for fair prices if something should go wrong. Lots of mods come with exteded caps to use larger batteries including the Provari. You can also get a "blem" on the clearance page and get a nice price cut, just pick up the extended battery cap and order batteries & charger from rtdvapor. As far as juice delivery with these types of mods it depends on level of ease you are looking for, you can go tank/cartomizer setups (like DCT) or clearomizers (Vivi Nova), or jump right in with a genisis style (AGA-T, Z-atty) which require a bit of research and practice.

Wow, seems like you're having problems, hate to hear that... Have you thought about a mod like the VAMO or Zmax that has rechargeable batteries? I have both and they both serve me well.

I honestly have not. I'll be looking into those thank you so much for your suggestions!

First question: totally not. I could care less if it looks like a camel backpack with a hose that attaches to a gas mask. HAHA. :w00t:

Second question: I would honestly rather nice big batteries that last. This way I'm not connected to a cord any longer. I guess I was just being cautious that the batteries in the new device wouldn't last as long. But that was me thinking irrationally. And with what you posted.. 2 days on one battery.. Holy smokes I need that!!

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I'm going to do some research on these. Thank you greatly!

Thanks greatly for your suggestions and insight. I hear alot and alot of people talking about the provari. I took a look at them it does seem pricey. However with all of the settings it didn't look like it catered to noobs which is the category I'm currently In. My first impression was that it was designed to be used by veterans as you need to be in the know on how to use them properly. And reading your posts you have me thinking I should just do the same and jump right in.

Hi Reax.
Glad to see you here at ECF. Hope you stay. It's a great place.
I took a look at your battery in the link you provided. The mAh rating is 200-280 on those. No wonder you're ready for an upgrade!

My first upgrade was to a 1100 mAh battery-type device. Battery lasted a day to a day & a half for me. Wow. What an improvement that was. That lasted me 9 months before I got my mod. I guess you would call it an intermediate step. The whole kit only cost me $43. That's $43 for 9 months of vaping. (Plus juice & cartomizers of course). I consider that a very good deal. Just my 2€. It was a simple step from my cigalikes. Nothing too complicated.

Specifics:
Kgo 1100 mAh kit
2 batteries + charger + some other stuff.
About the size of a sharpy.
Cost about $43.

Happy vaping & congrats for staying off the cigarettes.

I too started with the G6 and just ordered a Provari yesterday. I read alot of reviews and watched alot of videos and one common thread to most of them seemed to be that if people had to go back and do it over again they would have gone straight from their first setups to the Provari instead of spending hundreds of dollars in between and finally ending up in the end with a Provari. So i figured what the hell and I will be jumping from the G6 to the Provari in one step. I say if you have the $$$ than go for the Provari and be done with it. But thats just my opinion. My Pro is due in tomorrow and I think I made the right choice.

I think the root of your question is less about the device and more about the batteries. There are a bunch of really good mods out there but without the right battery it cant perform right. Look into the AW line of batteries with the higher mah rating as well. AW IMR is a high drain battery with max 2000 mah. If you go into the IC line with built in protection you can go to the 3100 mah rating. Should easily get 2 days with it unless you do 10ml of juice a day. Size is the last thing. 18650 is used in most mods now and is better IMO than double stacking the 18350s

Wow. Thank you everyone for the great suggestions and warm welcome. I am so glad I found this place. I thought about this all day with my current pass-thru driving me insane. It decides when it wants to work and when it just wants to sit there thinking about working. *Mumbles obscenities

I was going to go with the Provari right up front. But just decided to get my feet wet right away with a tank & variable voltage unit first. I honestly have no experience in either so I figure before I just toss out the money and hop in the pool, I might was well get my feet wet first to test the waters. :)

After everything everyone has suggested here it seems like a bigger battery with more power was my problem. So I decided to go with SilentScreams suggestion of the Vision Spinner (Variable voltage) and the Kanger T3 tank.

It just so happens that I found a vendor in a neighboring state of NY that made a starter kit with those included together. After some really fast responses from their support team I decided to Order their put together starter kit that comes with two spinners, two kanger t3's, and the charger. The vendor is in NY so hopefully I should have them sometime next week. I cannot wait.

Thank you again to everyone who has offered up suggestions on this. I cannot tell you how nervous I was to order this. I honestly heard of the tank systems, but I was afraid I wasn't even going to order the right parts... That how bad (noob) I was. LOL

Thanks again all. Salute. :toast:

Well the items finally arrived yesterday. Woohoo! So excited. My first impression are that these batteries are much larger. I'm liking that a lot. Charged both batteries last night.

Today was gym day and I decided to bring one of the setups (Kanger T3 & Vision Spinner) inside with me to keep the juice warm (It's freezing in PA now). So I placed it on my inside pocket, zipped the inside pocket and walked into the gym. I get inside to the locker room and threw my coat with the setup inside into the locker. I don't normally lock the locker. I get done working out and I'm walking outside to my car I realize that the setup I brought inside is not in my inside pocket anymore... ...? Seriously? Long story short someone stole themselves one of my new setups. I hope the scumbag's enjoy it.. Lesson learned I'll be locking my locker from now on. So I ended up ordering another kit today to replace the missing battery.

Today is my first day using it and so far it beats the G3 by a long shot. I'm enjoying it so much better. Smoother flavor by far. I'm now understanding why everyone loves VV batteries now. I brought it to the office with me today. The full test is going to be battery charge and how long this thing lasts for me. But with the size of it I'm sure I will be fine. :)

Thanks again to everyone for their suggestions. I really, really appreciate it. Thanks to everyone I now see what I was missing out on. :)

What MAH eGo battery are you using at your office? I hope it won't die while your there :(
Cant believe someone went into your locker and stole one of them, thats horrible.
Make sure you charge it as SOON as you get home because it might look big but its still small.
Get yourself a mod eventually, you won't regret it! :) Enjoy your new eGos, you'll LOVE them!

PROUD of YOU! : D

The Vision Spinner is equivalent to an eGo battery and will work fine. The down side is that once the battery inside fails, you have to spend another $24.99 for a new one. If you change to a mod that accepts discrete, replaceable batteries, you can buy batteries for about $5 give or take and rotate them to lengthen their life.

With normal resistance (2.5 ohms or so) battery life is considered to be around an hour for each 100 mah the battery can deliver. If you move to a mod that accepts the 18650 battery, that would translate to about 20 hours of normal vaping (2000mah/100). I carry a spare and that gets me almost 2 days of vaping should I get stranded away from home for some reason.

With a larger battery you get a truer vape because the battery has enough muscle to create the heat without dropping voltage under strain. Look for a mod in your price range that uses 18650 IMR batteries, which are safer than 18650 Li-ion and less likely to go up in smoke under thermal runaway.

And, you want a single battery mod, not one that uses dual batteries. The ones that have exploded are all dual battery mods. In a dual battery mod, if one battery is charged to a lower level than than other, the higher charged battery tends to discharge into the lower charged battery in an attempt to equalize the voltage levels of the two. That results in overheating.

Thanks for the advice DaveP. I will keep a lookout for one. I've been wondering if I could take the vision apart to get at the battery but by the sounds of it I can't. Oh well. Not a biggie for right now but definitely something I will keep my eye out for.

I'm happy to report that I've been at the office since 7am and I'll be here till after 5 with the way this day is going.. I've been hitting it pretty hard today and it's still kicking strong. The only drawback is that the tank is getting empty. And I'm somehow getting gurgling in the T3. Somehow juice is getting into the center and dropping down on top of the battery (In-between the clearomizer and the battery) causing the gurgling and wasting some of my juice. I'll have to find a solution for that, but it doesn't look like there is a one size fits all solution just yet. There have been multiple reports of it.

So at this point the battery is outstanding the tank. That is what I'm talking about! :rickroll:

Thanks again everyone.
