Here are a couple pics of the completed shorty box.
3 and 1/2 inches tall by 2 and 1/8th wide, 3/4 inch thick.
Standard 3.7 volt 14500 unit with a 3ml bottle on board.
will accept all brands of 14500s or 2 - 14250s for 6volt
Really don't like the stain...golden oak
will post the variable volt when completed
It is a little taller at 5 inches tall to fit 2 stacked 14500s. stained groove 001.jpgstained groove 002.jpgstained groove 003.jpg

Hat's off to your patients...routers and me don't get along at all, my dad gave me another bench top drill press so I decided to turn it into a poor man's mill, I picked up a cheap cross slide vice and some end mill bits thinking it might come in handy one day...wow, I wish I would have spent a bit more on a more accurate X slide, I use it all the time. Then I find out why may dad gave me his as he called it "baby drill press"...he needed the room for his new mill...ah well, I'll inherit it one day...if he doesn't out live me:mad:

Well, stained the mod with several coats of red Mohogany all in one stain from MinWax...ugly, ugly, ugly
obviously not to be applied with brush. Regardless of directions
Sanded and retryed with a old disposable sprayer made for car paint...hmmmm...maybe
Will see tomorrow morning...of course we have a good storm here so Moisture in the finish is a possibility.
Super-Quig-Man...I may have to make some really good boxes and send them to you for some really diabolical guts.
From seeing all your new stuff, you must be the only person on the continent who sleeps less than me.

I know what you mean. It is impossible to not have brush strokes I don't care what they say or how good anyone is with a brush. I use 4/0 steel wool to apply oils and stain....best I've found. Torque Guy uses a special oil on his creations that looks really good and protects like nothing else. Give him a shout out to get the details; he's a super guy.

That looks awesome...as far as tasting the finish...I used this fiberglass resin in a box mod a while ago, to compartmentalize everything...I ended up just scraping it, it stunk so bad my wife wouldn't even let me keep it in the house...hope yours fades, it should when it finishes off gasing...

The red button works with that colour eh?

alekos557... what I have used in the past to get a good clear depth of shine is about 3 or 4 coats of clear polyurathane and sand with steel wool after each coat has dried. Then after I sand that last coat with the steel wool. I would take something like pledge and spay it on a paper towel and then just rub that on. It will give depth and a nice clear coat to take that smell away. All I can say is you did a great job and I am loving what you did. :p still drewling.... wishing I had it

The red is the bottle..french vanilla from "myPVshop" strongest vanilla flavor I have found yet, quite tasty.
the button is in the top finger groove, should be pocket proof.
The taste was some finish in the drip cup that got into the fluid.
Here's to you Quigsworth, some 14500s and 14650s made from ancient mahogany
60 - 70 years old the switch position is a shameless copy of the "Grip"

Hey, I invented "shameless copying":D...the way I see it, if some guy (or girl) made an exact copy of one of my mods for their own...I'd feel pretty proud...alekos, looks great, you are getting that down, in fact you may be swimming in wood boxes by now, hmmm, if you're making multiples of those 18650 Grip knock off boxes and you have one to spare maybe we can do a little horse trading for one of those...I've got some brand new OKR 6T's and some MV meters (I'm out of 200 ohm trimmers:()...PM me, I'd love to mod one of those bad boys...maybe try and stuff a couple 18350's in there and build a vv bf :p

Edit: add:...dremel out the bottom and install the meter there a la Red Sky's old Cutlass...as long as we're in the spirit of shameless copying:blush:

Golden Oak should not be that light. If you haven't applied a sealer yet - let the stain sit longer and then to smooth the coloring out (it could come out uneven) use a clean rag with a little Golden Oak on it and rub it in until you are happy.

Answer to your other question - Yes you can use tung oil over stain, but it will not do anything with a taste or odor prevention - it might even add some more depending on why you are getting the effects in the first place...

clear poly 001.jpgclear poly 002.jpg
Thank you everybody, here is mohogany with 2 coats of clear poly.
I figure at least 2 more coats. I have 0000 steel wool...so I just give it a light buffing
between the next coats??? Hate to mess these up, finally starting to look good.
I will have to go get the rest of that old mahogany...maybe some walnut
