completely new... and lost

Hi all

I must say that im happy I found this site. Last week I bought my first vapur at a gas station and it was ok but nowhere near the sensation of smoking. I did some research and it seemed pretty unanimous that the rechargeable e cigs were much better than the disposable ones. I spent some time looking for a rechargeable one but I couldn't figure out which review sites were real and which ones were just marketing material. I think this site is going to help me but I am lost at where to start.

Im looking for a e cig that looks like a real cigarette and has as much throat hit as possible without having nicotine. Can anyone recommend a model?? Also I was wondering how the "juice" works. Do I have to by juice specific to the model I buy or are they interchangeable?

Thanks for your help!!

As far as I know, cig-a-likes are nowhere near as powerful as other starter kits out there, you're better off getting a starter kit if you're serious about sticking to vaping. I can tell you that the e-cig kits being sold at gas stations are way overpriced. You can find the same hardware online for a quarter of the price.

If you go with an eGo starter kit, juices are universal. Just fill your tank with liquid and vape away. If you want a throat hit similar to cigs, try starting off with 24mg nicotine juice then go higher or lower to your liking. I usually buy my vape stuff from eBay, but I'm sure other people on this forum will direct you to dedicated vape sites to start looking for your gear.

Good luck!

The device you're looking for has yet to be made. You have to trade of size for flavor in most instances, or trade vapor production for a discreet device. I would rather have a larger device that chunks vapor any day. Otherwise I will frustratingly chain vape a smaller device and just go back to my other devices,

Hi jaydog, welcome to ECF!

I never used the cigalike ones, so unfortunately I don't have any advice there, but I believer there are some where you can refill with your own liquids from any vendor.

Once you have your 5 posts in the new members section, you can post anywhere on the forum. If you haven't seen it yet, there is a Canadian forum. You might check there too for good Canadian vendors so you don't have to pay an outrageous amount for shipping.

Not possible. Nicotine is what causes the throat hit. Without it there will be no throat hit.

You didn't say if you are a smoker or not. If purchasing an e-cigarette to quit smoking, you'll want some nicotine in the e-liquid. Below are the normal recomendations for e-liquid and nicotine concentration:

10 cigs a day = 6mg nicotine
20 cigs a day = 12mg nicotine
30 cigs a day = 18mg nicotine
40 cigs a day = 24mg nciotine

Can anyone recommend a model?? Also I was wondering how the "juice" works. Do I have to by juice specific to the model I buy or are they interchangeable?
I would NOT recommend a cigarette-size battery. You can't expect such a low-powered battery to simulate the experience of a cigarette.

I and most experienced vapers will recommend an Ego battery setup at the very minimum. These will come closer to the experience of smoking a real cigarette. The bigger the battery, the better the experience. Save yourself the money you'd waste on a cigalike and get a good eGo battery setup.

Proper Terminology: A Guide to Juice Attachments

E-liquid has propylene glycol (Pg) and vegetable glycerin (Vg) as the base liquid. Liquid nicotine may or may not be in the liquid in different concentrations. In addition, there are flavoring agents added.

Heating coils are located in the juice attachments which screw on top of the batteries: tanks (clearomizers) or cartridges (cartomizers) turn the liquid into vapor in order to inhale it. See the last link above.

It really isn't to hard is you chase after the questions you have. There are links above and they are a start. I did notice that you said that you wanted no nicotine. ???

Anyway, An Innokin Twist or a Vision Spinner are very good starter systems. They have a charger that comes with them, so that is covered. Really, just a tank and Juice is left to get. For the tank, I recommend a Protank II or another that has a simple bottom coil design.

Speaking of juice or e-liquid, nic normally comes in 0, 6, 12, 18, and 24mg concentrations and is a part of the juice.

All in all, reading, for me, took a lot of time and I still do it. Get on those sub-forums. If you have a question, just ask.

There are a lot of us, including myself, that started out with a cig-a-like kit that we probably spent too much on and then left behind because of recurring costs, poor performance and equipment failure.

Were I to coach a newb looking to get started quickly, the Best kit that I can think of this Innokin itaste vv v3.0 w/out the clearomizers:

$24.88 Authentic Innokin iTaste VV V3.0 VV / VW 800mAh Rechargeable Battery - w/ charging cable at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

And instead of the clearomizers pick up a couple of these:

$11.95 Authentic Mini Protank-II BCC Clearomizer (1.0-1.5mL) - translucent / 2.5ohm / extra coil head at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Now if you want a bigger, better version of the v3.0 that has better battery life and will be more versatile over the long run (and you don't mind a box), get this MVP:

$45.16 Authentic Innokin iTaste MVP Variable Voltage APV Starter Kit - silver / 2.7

Lastly, find any juices that you like, load them up and vape on! :vapor:

Congrats and welcome to the ecf, I kind of envy you for finding us so early in your vape journey. Before you do anything, find what is possible with vape. Check out all the options available and where the technology is headed.

Identify what your vape objectives are first. Are you just trying to quit smokes and then plan on quitting Vape after that? Or, do you like smoking but hate dying, and wish there was a way to eat your cake and vape it too!! without killing yourself?

I am a committed vaper, plan to blow plumes of vape till I die. So from that prospective, quality, durable vape gear becomes an investment. And purchasing gear that will last me that long, becomes a no-brainer.

I started with a cig-a-like, went to an ego with a PT, had issues with the PT, which led me to the ecf and discovery. I now have a collection of mechanical and high amp regulated mods all using re-buildable atomizer tank systems. And loving it. Vape is a progressive disorder hobby. One grows with their vape. lol

Good luck, have fun, and,

Vape long and Prosper!!!!

P.S.: the cat bites!! ouch!

I am 2 months into vapeing and have been going through all the trials that everyone has gone through. I plan to use the forums for all the help I can get. I have one question now on where to buy products in a new city. In 2 weeks I will be in The Hague and would want to see some shops that sell vape products. I've tried online searches to no avail. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to find retail shops?

First of all, welcome to ECF. :)

If you really want an e-cig that has a similar size and shape to cigarettes, then I'd recommend the same kit that finally got me off of cigarettes for good. It's the Halo G6 Starter Kit, it costs $44.99 plus shipping and they offer nine colors from which to choose.

I moved from the G6 to Halo's Triton kit (an "eGo-clone" tank system) a couple of months back, but I still use some of my G6 materials several times a week.

With the G6, I am able to get about 3/4 the throat hit and 3/4 the vapor production that I get from the same e-liquid in my Triton, so the trade off from performance to portability isn't too bad. Halo's G6 is among the highest rated "cigalikes" available today.

You can use any brand of e-liquid in the G6 cartomizers (aka "cartos", the cartridges that hold the e-liquid). If you want to stick with the Halo brand, you can order their cartos pre-filled, or you can get blank (empty) ones and fill them yourself. Halo, like most e-liquid vendors, offers several levels of nicotine content in all of their flavors, or none at all if you specify "0mg". Halo's e-liquids are very good, based on my own experience and that of other vapers here in ECF and elsewhere.

My ADV (or "all day vape", referring to my favorite e-liquid flavor, the one I use all day, every day) is currently Mt. Baker Vapor's Black Ice, a very tasty blackberry/mint/menthol blend, but it was Halo's Menthol ICE and SubZero flavors that freed me from the burning of carcinogenic tobacco.

welcome and congrats rj. The best advice I can give you is to get your post count up to five, then can post in the Canada sub forum and request a list of all venders in your country. Good luck!

Early last year I started with a Blu starter kit. Overpriced and not the best, but it's the only thing I knew about (saw the TV commercials). Switched to an eGo kit soon thereafter and discovered the wonderful world of clearomizers and the seemingly endless number of juices. Picked up a Vision Spinner (better than an eGo Twist) that allowed me to adjust the voltage of the battery. Then on to tanks like the ProTank 2 and 3 and Aspires, and electronic mods like the Innokin iTaste family (highly recommended...especially the VTR and SVD) and Provari (pricey :2c::2c: but really good). And, now, I'm just beginning to play around with mechanical mods. Anyway, all that to say that it's quite a steep learning curve and it takes time to experiment and become familiar with all the aspects of this wonderful hobby. But it is worth it, big time. I can't imagine going back to analogs...they hold no interest for me at all now.

OH, I forgot to mention some great sites. One is myfreedomsmokes.com, which has a fantastic variety of devices, mods, batteries, tanks...everything. Their prices are good, shipping is fast, and their support is excellent. The other is vapedudes.com, which has very good and reasonably priced juice. Many to choose from, and I've never been disappointed in any of them. Also, halocigs.com. Halo makes excellent juices that are well-regarded in the vaping community from what I've seen. I'm vaping "Menthol Ice" and "Tribeca" right now...yummmmm. (why anyone looks for an "all day vape" is beyond me - variety is one of the things that makes vaping such a great alternative!)
