When I fist got my CE2 clearomizers, I was a bit put off by the fact that there is solder right in the juice chamber. That doesn't seem like it can be healthy. I tried them anyway, and they worked so well, I basically just put it out of my mind. But recently, I filled up a cartomizer with cinnamon-apple juice, and it turned the solder from shiny metallic to matte black. This seems to indicate some sort of chemical reaction is going on, and it brought back my concerns about having the solder right in the juice compartment.

Does anyone know anything about this? Reasons to be concerned, or not?

First and foremost, either cinnamon OR apple will crack the tube on your clearomizer ALL BY THEMSELVES! It's happened to dozens of people on this forum.

As for the Chemical reaction I'm not really sure what's going on in there, but I'd try to look up how various cinnamon and fruit extracts react with lead, because there's lead in almost any solder, and I'd bet my hat that Royal smoker or whooever made the ce2's was too damn cheap to use lead free solder.

The cheap answer is that there's no way vaping it will be worse for you than smoking a cig, but I won't endorse that. Please let me know what you find out and how it turns out. Personally I am about 2 hours away from re-soldering the wires onto the base of a few of my ce2's. Good Luck!

Glad to hear that the solder is lead-free, luv2vape. Was that confirmed with RoyalSmokers?

I'm not having any issue with the plastic tube, though, at least not more than usual....my clear tubes crack and leak long before the atomizer is dead, no matter what juice I'm using. Good to know about the syringe idea....I'll have to try that out.

It's the malic acid in the apple that creates the chemical reaction that cracks the plastic tubes...!!!

common "safe" solders are a mix of silver/tin and vary on percentage depending on intended use. I can certainly see silver changing color, it does with just exposing it to air. I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that its lead due to a color change.

But, melting temp can vary also depending on the mixture with both lead/tin or silver/tin solder, so unless you know the mix, a temperature check would be only fairly certain if you didn't have any melting below about 220C. And, this is just a guess knowing what a fairly low percentage silver solder will melt at. I guess I just assumed they wouldn't use lead solder in these things... probably not a good idea to assume :(

Guys its easy to test for lead in the solder. I will pick up a kit this weekend and test for lead in the solder. I will also videotape it as well and post the results. I'm also going to test the juice to see if it absorbs the solder/lead as well. Until then we can only speculate.

Super, do let us know. I'm hoping the juice test won't be necessary and the solder is lead free, but in case...

I have some CE's that have juice soaking in them and think I should test the juice as well. I can't get the test till tomorrow (Monday morning). I'm anxious to see the results and will video tape the whole process.
