OP... the posts that you are mentioning are posts made in the "Ask the Vets" sub-forum... if you loook at the stickies there you will get more info, but here it is the basic.

All threads created there ARE moderated at first.. and only viewable by veteren members. This allows a controlled area for the thread to be answered. The down fall sometimes it takes a couple of days before your thread reappears

It is then made visable, but is locked...so there isn't really any back and forth.

Yes, I am sure many people would be able to provide answers.. but there are many places in the open forum for that to occur ....

The main draw to the ATV is that a member gets their answer and moves on .. and maybe others will see that thread and it will help them as well...

It's not for everyone, and not all threads should necessarilly go there, BUT I just wanted to let you know the answer to your problem.

moderated threads also could happen in social groups as well depending on how the member that created it set it up....

Like someone else here previously stated if you're under 5 posts you can only post in the New Members Forum, and you'll get a message telling you so, and that's not the message you got.

I'm willing to bet if your getting the message that a moderator needs to approve your post, then you're trying to post in the Ask the Veterans forum. If you read the sticky's about the rules it explains it, but basically, when you post in that forum, your post will be invisible to everbody except moderators and veterans until you get a reply. Once you receive a reply, you'll be able to see your post. Until you get a reply, it will be completly invisible to you. You won't even be able to see it when you click on the "My Posts" link until then.

I'll head over to the veterans forum and do some answering. Guess we've been a little lax.. ^_^

Edit: Guys, please stop closing the threads in the veterans forum if the question isn't actually answered. Granted..they might autoclose, but there are a few in there that look to be only half answered.

Hey all,

the ATV forum isn't a perfect system, by any means. I started it because I wanted to have an area where long-term and trusted members could answer the kind of questions that get asked frequently and end up lost in the dark recesses of time......

It was really a stop gap measure until we get the content management system (CMS) up and running, where information of this type will be far more easily located. I'm sure many of those who contribute to the ATV forum now will also be writing the info in the CMS, although it might well be a good idea to keep the ATV forum running long term - that way we'll get a good idea of what kinds of questions we need to answer in the CMS!

Thanks,

SJ

They are closed to prevent the thread from going off course.. once the thread is answered that should be it.... granted some answers would lead to more questions .. that is why it is important for threads created to be as detailed as possible.

As far as threads that seem not to have answered the question... that is probably as far as it was able to go... and we try not to leave threads "away" for too long of a period....

I apologize if I haven't been at 100% I will make a note... if it is something would be better for more detailed responses out in the open forum .. I usually provide a link if needed so...

Is there any feedback if a question posted to ATV is determined by the mods not to pass muster, or should one just assume as much with the passage of time if it never appears?

Your thread is waiting for answers..since it was recently posted

... if it doesn't "pass muster" meaning asking for subjective opinions, or question that is felt best for the OP to be answered in another specific area in ECF ,where there is more traffic,it will either be moved.. OR a post requesting for the thread be created in the area with a link provided.

if you check your "created posts" from your profile "stats" you can see if the thread is around.. if you see it... it is open to view.. if you don't see it... it is in the ATV waiting for answers..

Again we try not to keep threads in "limbo" for more than a couple of days...but please understand a lot of threads are created in the ATV and less traffic.. the Vets that reply try to give the answer that will help not only the requester.. but other readers as well.

thank you for your understanding

ADD: if you look at the stickies in the ATV I believe it explains it a little better than I can

Lightgeoduck, just to be clear I wasn't quibbling. I confess to not having read the stickies in ATV carefully before I posted. I went back and did so after stumbling across this thread, and as a result determined that the question I posed in my post was probably only marginally acceptable, if I'm generous. I had not previously considered the possibility, and it wasn't clear to me what would happen if it wasn't accepted. Thanks for clearing that bit up for me.

SmokeyJoe, I feel like I'm having a chance brush with greatness, lol. I would like to extend my gratitude and appreciation for creating this site, whatever it's minor imperfections. It's been both a lifesaving and life enriching resource for countless people, myself included. That goes also for all the others who invest their time to keep this place running smoothly.
