There's been a lot of buzz about this. I've been using it exclusively. You can overfill if doing it 'blind'. If you stop when you see the littlest bit of liquid surfacing it's usually good. I push through the mouthpiece end which leaves the batt end cleaner. With manuals it's not as much an issue but w/ autos you have to be careful.

I think 'whiskey will' pops off the caps when he does his. Seeing what you're doing is nice but not necessary w/ this method. Great method indeed!

I've been doing this also, and I love it.
I use blank cartomizers.
When I want to fill them, I fill 5 at the time, I do take off the white cap and plastic ring.
Then I count 23 drops of liquid while putting them in the plastic cap.
Very slowly I push the cartomizers down, battery side down.
As soon as I see the liquid come up, I hold the cartomizer at an angle, and the juice then falls in the fill.
It works fantastic.
When I refill an empty cartomizer I count 12 drops while putting the liquid in the plastic cap.

It's a clean and fast way to refill the cartomizers.

I have tried all the methods refilling the carts and this one is the best for me. Another thing that works for me is using canned air to blow out the over fill. The small plastic tube that comes with the canned air almost fits perfectly over the battery end hole. A small blast thru the batt end clears it out nice. Versus that gurgle I used to get when I overfilled popping off the white cap.

When I tried this from the mouthpiece end I got a mouth full of juice. From the battery end, it's a mess, and I have to clean all the juice off the threads. I tried taking out the inserts, and that seemed to work OK from the mouthpiece end, but by then what's the point? I could have just injected until the filler looks right, and not lost any juice or made a mess.

For reference: I usually drip with a 510 or 901, but I bought a few cartos to see if I would like them better for driving, so I'm far from an expert carto-refiller. I must be missing something here.

There seems to be a fine line between filling just right and over filling. I find that letting them sit helps. I also find that if you do this enough you can stop before you see the juice surface and it's just right.

Strangely enough I tried the batt end once and found the clean up to be much less. The suction seems to be better by using the mouthpiece end though.

I've been using this method and having problems getting massive amounts of juice spitting out of the mouthpiece. I only use about 12 drops to refill, never overflows out the other end, but I can't figure out how to stop the massive spitting. I have been letting them sit upright for at least 10 minutes, but it's still happening. When I actually open the cart, it looks like I get TONS of juice that sits between the plastic cap and the o-ring.

Any suggestions?

When I put the o-ring and the cap on I stack them. That is, I don't leave any space between them. I realize that defeats the purpose of having two 'juice catchers' however I don't have a problem with liquid coming out the mouthpiece. You might want to try this as a simple fix before modifying the o-rings.

Will have to try this, thanks. It may take me removing the cap and ring just once on a refill, then using this technique. I did notice that the one cart that was leaking really bad had tons of space between the cap and the ring. And leaking atomic fireball on chapped lips hurts like hell!

If you make a creatively bent paperclip you can reach in the mouthpiece hole and wiggle the o-ring up to touch the cap and avoid having to actually open the cartomizer. However I find that an open cartomizer is much easier to clean when the time comes.

I might have to try the paperclip because I really don't have an adequate tool and keep bending the hole in the cap out of shape a little. Still usable, but dirt, etc. can get stuck easier when it's bent a little and not smooth. Thanks!

I use a dentist's pick. I happened to have one from a kit my wife bought a while back. But if you prefer, just ask your dentist for one the next time you go for a check-up. They work great.
