I just read this in a fitness magazine:
I could be mistaken, but it is my understanding that whilst nicotine, like caffeine, is a vasoconstrictor, that it does not contribute to atherosclerosis, but that the other chemicals in cigarettes are what causes atherosclerosis. The statement does qualify the assertion about nicotine by saying that it is the nicotine in cigarettes, but I still think it's a false statement. Anyone have any insight?
The nicotine in cigarettes can also increase blood pressure and up your chances of developing atherosclerosis, a buildup of fat in the arteries...
