Confused About Clearomizers

I think my Clearomizer needs a new coil, but I'm curious if there's anything else I should know.

Kinda confused by everything I'm reading, just wondering if I need to also order a whole new Clearomizer, and do I need to wash out the Clearomizer or anything like that?

I first tried vaping a few years ago with one of those (I now know) pitiful setups that try to look like a real cig. Didn't cut it for me so I kept smoking analogs. Finally quit last November, cold turkey. But in April I started seriously jonesing for cigs again. Instead of buying a pack of smokes I decided to give vaping a serious try again, and boy am I happy I did. Now that I have a decent setup vaping is a whole new experience for me, and I don't crave analogs cigs at all.

I spent a long time in this forum trying to figure out what to get (holy cow it's all so confusing for new vapers), and finally decided on a Mega KGO VV 1200mah battery & the Kanger T3 Clearomizer, seen here: EGO Vision clearomizers LR 2.1-2.4ohm

I bought 2 Clearomizers, and have mainly just been using the same one for the past 4-5 weeks. Today it gave out, I have to really pull on it and turn the voltage on the battery way up just to get a tiny puff. I know those coils don't last forever so I assume that's the problem. This is the coil I'm going to re-order: http://www.hoosierecig.com/Replacement-coils-for-Kanger-T3_p_458.html

I'm using my other Clearomizer now so everything's fine again, but when I got on here to do some double-checking before ordering some coils I saw posts by people talking about cleaning their Clearomizers, doing something with the wick, and I don't know what all. I *think* I just need to order some new coils, but I'm kinda confused again...

I've been pleased with this setup so I'm not looking to make any major changes right now. I'll probably do some experimenting eventually, but right now one of the things I like about this battery & clearomizer combination is that I don't have to think about it too much.

Thanks in advance for any help someone can offer!

Welcome to the forum netnut.

4 or 5 weeks on one head with no real cleaning is pretty good going IMHO. At the least, I run mine under hot water every 2-3 tanks and give them a quick dry burn. Thats basically where you first take the little silicone rubber cap off above the weaks, then take the head only and put it on your battery and fire the button while gently blowing on the coils. This burns any residual juice you may have on them. You'll see little wisps of smoke coming off the coil - try to look down the center post and see the coil glowing in there. Then give it another rinse under hot water to get rid of any crap it burnt off. Replace the silicone cap.

Also, some people soak their heads in vodka / everclear / rubbing alcohol / lemon juice / vinegar for a few hours and rinse, dry burn and rinse again.

The video below shows how to dry burn a different type of clearo, but it's still relevant to the T3. Starts about 3.00 mark, but has some good info from the start.

Sounds like a good cleaning or replacement of the head is needed. I figured I would let you know kanger made a new replacement head for the T3 which splits it into 2 pieces. This allows for cheaper replacement heads.

base: (need one per t3 and keep them)
Kanger eVod Base Replacement

Replacement coils:
Kanger T3s/MT3s Coil Replacement ** 5 Pack - 2.5 ohms

Edit: Dont know why it says evod base as it is a t3s base.

The replacement coils you linked are the correct ones for your t3 clearo you also linked. No need to buy another clearomizer unless you break yours. I agree rinsing in hot water now and then is a good idea regardless if you're changing flavors or not but if you got 5 weeks on o e coil that's pretty great, mine don't last that long.

It comes down to personal preference, but I don't dry burn the inexpensive little clearos. Sometimes they aren't made well enough to survive a dry burn. That's just my two cents, carry on ;)

Figured after 4 or 5 weeks on the same coil, OP could use high-pressure oven-cleaner at 3000PSI* and it would be fine - but I suppose it might be the burnt juice holding the coil together :D

Seriously, I dry burn my little CE5 heads all the time, never had one pop yet.

*please don't do this

Thank you for this awesome, detailed info & video. That's extremely helpful to a complete beginner. Too bad that getting into vaping is so complicated, otherwise might help a lot more folks quit smoking. :-(

Maybe I got lucky with that one coil, but I don't think I'm a real heavy vaper either. Remember I had NOTHIN' for 4-5 months so that helped get me out of the habit. I only vape at home and in my car, not during the day when I'm working.

That sounds interesting... Do you know what the new replacement head (that splits into two pieces) is called, so I can look for it?

Duly noted, thanks.

The Kanger T3 has a replacable base. You can purchase the base for around $2-3.
I think we're talking about the same thing. I called it a coil because that's the way it's listed on the hoosierecig.com site.

Glad you added that, lol.

The base and coils are for the new "T3s" but are backwards compilable. I had a couple links in my original post for whats probably going to be the best price on them. most other places have the base for twice the price.

Oh duh, now I get it. I'm going to go ahead and order those instead of the kind I've got now.

I noticed this in the description for the coils, "All future orders will have etching" (which apparently they don't have presently). What does that mean, do I need to care?

Sorry to keep asking questions. Newbies can be so annoying.

Etching is when the resistance number is etched onto the head so you know what it supposed to be. I always check them anyway.

Hi netnut. :)
I am a pretty new vaper too. Started on ecigs full-time on May 13, but I had a slip about a week ago. After vaping exclusively for a couple of weeks, the analog tasted horrible! I'm almost glad I did it because it completely turned me off of analogs, and I don't crave them anymore. I thought it was going to be such a treat, and I ended up thowing it away halfway through.
I think I started on the same clearomizer as you (and paid $10 for it!), but I quickly moved onto ones that have changeable heads. Other than one incident of juice leaking out all over the place because I unscrewed it off the battery from the middle and not the base, I found them to be better than the completely disposable ones in every way.

Thanks for clearing that up. Now I'm wondering how you check them, and why you check them... but that's a conversation for another day. For now I'll be glad if I can just master the basics (which will be thanks to people like you).

I knew there were a lot of good people on this forum just from reading through a ton of threads trying to figure out what to buy to get started. I sincerely appreciate everyone taking the time to help me out, hope I can help someone else out eventually.

Well that is good to hear. At times I've thought that I do miss smoking, but after not smoking now since November I've realized what a relief it is not to have to deal with the smell, the icky mess, and the social awkwardness. Out of all my friends I think I was the last one to quit. About damn time.

I think I started on the same clearomizer as you (and paid $10 for it!), but I quickly moved onto ones that have changeable heads. The clearomizer i got from hoosierecigs.com was just $5.49 with the first head included, and their price for replacement heads is $2.49 each. Is that what you mean by changeable heads, or are you opening up a whole 'nother can of worms for me? lol

First of all, congrats!

You can check them with any APV that has a resistance checking function or you can use an electrician's multimeter if you have one. The reason you check them I believe (and this is especially essential if you've rebuilt the head) is that if the resistance is too low it will get very hot and you can damage your device. Otherwise, if you just wanna know what combo of voltage to resistance gives you the heat and flavor you like, well, then you just need to nerd out a bit! But it's just fine for us beginners with our twist batteries to start with a low voltage and just slowly turn it up til it's just right.

I'm a noob, so if I oversimplified, left something out, or just plain said something wrong, I'm sure someone will be along shortly to set us straight!
