Confused about what juice ratio means :?: I see lots of posts about 50/50,,,80/20,,,PG,VG?!? What does the ratio mean. Is it the consistency of the juice? Just started fooling around buying different ones. The 1st juice I got with my kr808 started kit was pretty thin and light in color. The recent juice I ordered from BWB was thicker and darker. But I noticed that the recent darker juice was did not absorb my carto as much. Some venders I notice offer various ratios. Why and what does it mean.

I notice my fellow vapers talking about certain ratios or liquids burning out cartos quicker. I am waiting to order a Volt bug in the meantime I am using the clear fluxos filled with R2 from BWB,,,,,and it is kinda getting gunked up because of the thicker juice.

Sorry to confuse anyone reading this because know I have posted more than one question here.
I don't wanna get in trouble,,,:rules: I'm just trying to figure out the whole ratio thing.

hi imaqt, the general rule about PG/VG

PG Is thinner in constancy and is a very good flavor carrier. It also carries some throat hit commonly seen as TH
VG is much thicker in consistency and must be thinned out. It slightly mutes the flavors, but also adds some sweetness to the juice. VG tends to smooth out juices taking some of the TH away from PG. It also is what creates plumes of vapor in your juice mixes.

This is why blends are very popular. my favorite is a 70-30 60-40 PG/VG mix. I love to see lots of vapor and desire a mellower TH.

I hope this helps :)

Okay some basics first: PG stands for propylene glycol, VG is vegetable glycol. PG has more throat but less vapor; VG has more vapor and less throat (and less flavor, according to some). VG is thicker than PG and yes, it can gunk up cartos and attys. It's also more difficult to load into cartos. When people talk about 80/20, 70/30 etc. generally they're referring to the PG/VG ratio. What to use depends: some people are allergic to PG, some to VG. Other than that, it's a matter of preference.

You are right, the ratio thing means how much PG and VG in the liquid. 50/50 means 50% PG and 50% VG. usually (not necessary!) the first number is the PG, but it is not a standard.
The color of the liquid is nothing to do with this ratio. The color depends on the age of the liquid (higher nicotine level, more days or weeks -> darker color) and on the aromas (various colors).

Yeah, it's PG/VG... 80/20 is 80% PG. PG is thinner, VG is thicker. PG gives more throat hit, and VG makes more vapor, and can be more clogging (and mutes flavors some). Darker juices do clog up cartos faster, but that's more about the flavorings used. Juices will darken with age, but I don't think that affects carto clogging. Sweeteners are supposed to clog cartos too.

ETA: I knew I shouldn't bother replying to a brand new topic. I'm such a slow hunt and peck typist, of course the question would be answered multiple times before I finish. Oh well, it's the thought that counts. :)

Higher amounts of VG is the cause of the gunk. Since you like cartomizers, I suggest going with a 50/50 or higher pg ratio. Pg is your flavor enhancer but less vapor. You need a little vg to produce vapor and add a little sweetness. PG is friendlier when it comes to cartomizers. It absorbs better/quicer so you don't encounter a burnt taste.

its always hard until someone shows you how to do it. I had the same questions.
for DIY mixing the ratio you read about MOSTLY list the first percentage as PG unflavored. The second is VG unflavored. When mixing yourself its best to use a starting point of 70% PG to 30% VG NOT including your flavoring.
Both PG and VG are clear liquids.

VG alone is a thick liquid. that's the reason most juices are heavy on the PG. A all VG juice will clog a tank system like I use.
The color of the juice is from the flavoring not from the mix ratio. In flavoring they add food coloring to match what you expect to look like. The higher the nic you use will also give a unflavored juice a darker look.
