I'm technologically ......ed and I periodically have to ask dumb questions so any help anyone can extend is appreciated.

Now that Gotvapes has so many ohms levels to chose from on Visions I'm lost as to what ohm level I should be buying. I use Ego PT batteries. I do have a VV Ego but I leave it on the lowest reading (red led) to sustain battery life.

I am using Visions at 2.8 ohms on my Egos, they seem to be working fine. But things tend to seem to be working fine for me right before they take a giant crap and die *seemingly* inexplicably... so I guess I ought to get proactive these days and try to educate myself a little more.

How do you match your ohm levels to your voltage levels? Egos run at ~2.7volts is that right? I get very confused. I hope this is not too dumb of a question. Thank you ecig gurus in advance.

Ps. Visions are the best thing in the world. I dripped for 18 months religiously as nothing and I mean nothing else satisfied... until Vision came into my life. Just a little shout out.

Thanks for the info Stef. You said it's reasonable, this sounds like matching ohms to V is not too scientific? When an Ego PT is plugged into a usb it's running at 3.7V, is a 2.8ohm still reasonable or is it better to get a different ohm rating? Gotvapes has a 2.5-2.7ohm and a 3.0 as well (and sometimes they're sold out of one or the other). These seems like such small differences so there must be a reason that matters? "Tax the coil" sounds bad... I'd like to know how to match things up and buy the right thing so I don't damage my equipment or have something not work properly.

Hi, Tokengirl,

Basically, for any given voltage, the lower the resistance of the carto (Ohms), the higher the power output, and the higher the resistance, the lower the power output. Power, for practical purposes, is temperature and amount of vapor. Higher power taxes the battery more.

If you are just using an eGo, from the articles I've read, it's not recommended that you go below 2 Ohms, as it will significantly shorten the life of your battery. Many people do anyway, because they want hotter vapor and don't have a mod - that's what Low Resistance cartos are all about.

If you go above 3 Ohms, you get significantly less vapor, and it's pretty cold at that point. But you are not damaging the battery - just your vaping experience. That said, there are some very delicate juices that might be better vaped at low power. It's a matter of taste.

If you use a mod of some sort, your choices would depend on the voltages the mod can supply.

That's what I learned from wiser heads and articles, at any rate. In the beginning, when all these different options started showing up, I was fairly confused as well. Used to be easy: one voltage, one resistance, no frills. :D

Personally, I have a mod and a number of eGos and sticks. I ended up buying 2.6-2.8 Ohms exclusively, because it's a range that is safe for all my batts, and if I want a variation of temps, I just stick it on my ProVari and get pretty much whatever I want with it. I have two old-style eGo VVs and 2.6-2.8 Ohms is perfect for them as well. You can get vapor on a 3 - 3.2 Ohm carto on the highest setting, but it's not that great in my experience. I'm not particularly fond of very hot vapor, so I don't go for lower Ohms either - and I don't want to shorten the life of my eGo batts.

If you are happy with the temperature and vapor your current resistance is providing, stick with it. It's safe for eGos, in fact I believe it's pretty optimal.

The resistance one chooses is a matter of personal preference. A lower resistance or higher voltage will give you more vapor and TH and the vapor will be warmer. The flavor will also be affected, with some flavors being enhanced, and some diminished. The battery will drain faster at lower resistance/higher voltage and this will also decrease the lifespan of the coil.

Myself, I vape on Riva batteries (~3.7V) and my favorite cartos are 2.4-2.6 ohm Fluxomizers. I would not use 2.4 ohm cartos at a higher voltage as it tends to burn the juice. I have taken 2.8 ohm Fluxomizers as high as 4.2 volts without any problems. The coils in the Fluxomizers are pretty strong. In the past year I only poped one coil and that was during a dry burn for cleaning. Usually the wicks start falling apart before the coils burn or the tubes crack (on older Fluxos).

I have only tried the 3.0 ohm Vision and it was too cool for me. I will have to try the 2.5 ohm one to see if they are similar to my Fluxos.
