Hey all...my first post here.

I've been vaping for a few months but my use is pretty limited. I started out buying one gas station disposable and working my way thru the brands to see if I could find something that tasted half decent. I'm now on a rechargeable Green Smoke ecig. A pack of 5 cartridges lasts me quite a long time and its kinda OK with my limited use, but sometimes they taste like I'm smoking a cardboard box. ;-(

I'd like to move on (and up!) but I'm overwhelmed here. I'm reading some of the posts and its a completely new language!! tanks, batteries, tips, coils, and on and on! ACK!! I was hoping for a "sticky" post at the top of this Forum that explained all of this stuff for the newbie. Can't find it and I don't know where the starting line is. I need a dictionary that helps me translate this new language into English!!

Pointers welcomed!!

My suggestion would be to go to someplace like FastTech.com and look at the different types. Search for:

Clearomizer
Carto Tank
EVOD
Genesys
Kayfun
RBA

For Batteries, search for:
Ego
Ego Twist
Spinner
Mechanical Mod
MVP
Pass Thru
Vamo

Look at the photos, read the descriptions. For heads that can be disassembled, they show them in pieces, too.

I think you'll pick it up a lot quicker that way than reading text descriptions.

The best advice I can give is don't spend a ton of money on hardware or juice until you know what you like. What may be a treasure for one person can end up in the garbage for another.

Start small with the standard eGo starter package.

Joye eGO Electronic Cigarette | ecigExpress

Then branch out with juice. Your local store usually has a juice tasting bar. Get a feel for what you like.

Then maybe go to some online juice vendors and order some sampler packs.

When you get a feel for what you like, maybe upgrade your hardware or order larger bottles of juice.

Some people never change from the starter setup and they're perfectly happy.

I know this is generic advice, but it's tough when you're starting out and there are so many possibilities. What's best is what works for you.

Clearomizer: (Clearo) a clearomizer is the transparent version of a cartomizer. Designed to allow users to see how much e-liquid they have left. Many have ml graduations for the capacity of e-liquid left. Made of very easily breakable plastic in order to remain transparent. A wick or wicks, are generally used for the juice delivery to the coil. There are top coil and bottom coil configurations. Many versions are constantly evolving in order to improve the performance the user desires.
Condom Fill Method: A method of filling a cartomizer by filling a condom cap and forcing the bottom threaded end of a cartomizer into it, thus filling the carto.
Connection Type: Many different connection types are used to connect the atty/carto to the device or battery. The most common are 510, 901, 808, 801. In my humble opinion, the 510 connection is the most popular type.
Coil: A coil is generally a piece of nichrome or kanthal wire that has been wrapped around a kind of wick. Current flows through the coil; the coil gets hot, and vaporizes your e-liquid.

Drip Shield: The drip shield is a round metal or plastic tube that slips over your atomizer. If leaking occurs on your atomizer, the liquid will leak into the drip shield instead of leaking onto your PV. As your atomizer runs out of liquid stored, the liquid in the drip shield will be sucked back into the atomizer to then be vaporized.
Drip Tip: A drip tip is essentially a mouth piece to be used on an atomizer for dripping. The tip has an enlarged opening allowing you to drip e-liquid directly into it. Drip tips are also used on cartomizers, replacing the existing rubber mouth piece that comes with them to provide a more comfortable experience. Drip tips come in many different colors, styles, and materials.
Drip Well: The drip well is typically a bowl shape on a mod where the atomizer female connector sits. The drip well is designed to catch any excess e-liquid that may have leaked from the atomizer.
Dripping: Dripping is the act of allowing e-liquid to manually getting to the heating element by “dripping” e-liquid onto the heating element directly. Some consider “dripping” to provide the best vapor, throat hit and flavor. No e-liquid delivery system is involved from a typical electronic cigarette system.

I feel your pain. I was trying to find a 'Guide' for a new user asking some very basic vaping questions to be used as a cut n paste answer to the question asked. I finally gave up and actually considered authoring a draft Sticky for this purpose. But discovered that with all of the variables in involved in vaping and the overwhelming selection of devices that my meger knowledge of vaping was not gonna git-er-dun. Dakota Jim's list of terms and twgbonehead's suggestion should get many of your questions answered.

Greetings and welcome to the forum. It can be a little overwhelming at first -- I remember telling the friend who got me onto e-cigs that I couldn't tell a clearomizer from a hole in the ground, though now she's coming to me for vaping advice.

There's a really good ECF blog about working your way up from beginner devices to more advanced stuff: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/5058-10-advancing-up-vaping-ladder-egos-mods.html

Once you get to 5 newcomer posts, check out the ECF Canada sub-forum, you can get some tips about good places to buy E-Cig stuff in Canada.

The best bet is to go to a smoke shop if you have one near you. Cigarette prices are $10 plus here in NY so smoke shops are abundant. I went in there and picked up an eGo T starter pack with 2 clear cartomizers for $30.00, and bought 2 juices (tobacco and cola.) Both of the flavors were terrible so I didn't really pick it up as I should have, I smoked it off and on. The tobacco juice had a very strong maple smell to it, and didn't taste good. Plus, I was getting a ton of gurgling from the cartomizers which was annoying. So I basically had it for about 2 weeks to a month without actually doing anything with it. Then, I went to another smoke shop on advice from a friend, picked up a kanger mini protank 2, and a red bull e juice. I've been hooked since then. Since, I've added another pro-tank so I can mix and match flavors, and I upgraded to a variable voltage box style battery. Everything I had before is still very useful as a backup.

Bottom line, start small, build up, everything will still be useful that you originally bought, and find a juice and a mg strength that you connect with. Buy everything in 5ml until you are clear what you are after.

What you need is eGo style batteries probably the Twist type, variable voltage, and a couple of good clearomizers. Kangertech Protank or Airotank or Aspire. Aspire has a wide selection of clearomizer.

A clearomizer is an atomizer that has a tank to hold the e-liquid.

As for all the Lingo there are some sites that have a glossary of what they mean. One site is tasteyourjuice.com. The guy that has that site does some very good videos also, PBusardo.

Yes it can be overwhelming. Just don't smoke cigarettes and eventually you'll get most of it and feel a hell of a lot better.

My suggestion would be to go to someplace like FastTech.com and look at the different types. Search for...

I think you'll pick it up a lot quicker that way than reading text descriptions.

I totally agree, that is how I figured most of it out. The rest I figured out by watching youtube videos and finding some reviewers I like.
