Hello. I just joined this forum after doing ton's of research on e-cigs. I think these things could be the safer cigarette I'm looking for that I hope can eventually allow me to stop smoking altogether -- or at least be a lot safer while smoking.

Question: It is VERY confusing to me to read everyone talking about e-cig's by these "numbers." In my research I have found lots of info on the various brands (Smoking Everywhere, Red Dragon, njoy, ePuffer, Green Cig's, VaporKing....etc....etc...etc).

BUT...when I'm reading about various people and their experiences, everyone keeps talking about the "901" or the NRxxx, or 501, etc...
This is very confusing to me as I have learned a good bit about ecigs over the past week - but I think in terms of general brand names.

Is there some reference list that can help me "translate" these numbers into general brand names ? I think that would really help a lot.

FYI: I have purchased the Red Dragon and Smoking Liberty brands of ecigs and am evaluating which one I like the best.

Thanx, JoAnna

Hi JoAnna - it is confusing I agree but the problem is that a lot of the sellers stock the same models but just give them a different name. Using the generic model numbers makes it easier to tell what people are talking about, once you know what they mean of course :)

There's a reference chart here but I'm not sure how up to date it is.

Hope that helps

I went and looked at the link that gives a list of all the different kinds. It is GREEK to me. I don't know what it means. I found another link that gave a different kind of numbers list but that didn't tell me anything either. Is there something that can tell me in plain english what the differences are in terms of how they look, how they are weighted, how they feel, how easy they are to fill etc.

I can go find an e-cig seller, but that is just an advertisement and they say nothing there that seems relevant here, which makes it even more confusing.

Aren't there certain styles, like real cigarettes...short ones, long ones, thin ones, and different ways they are put together or work etc. .etc...so a person can at least say ok, I want this style, and then go from there to figure out what they may want? It seems like there are a billion choices. ACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

I thought I would scroll down the page and find some explanations for why they choose what they did, good plan, right? LOL, well not so much:) Instead I find this:

I have tried or own a super mini, 901 with a passthrough, 801 and a screwdriver.

Hands down the SCREWDRIVER is by far the best.

Is this person really talking about an e-cigarette and does he actually smoke it?? Laughing

I would say he is driving a sports car through a hole in the side of a mountain and he put some kind of a contraption called an 801 or a screwdriver, and he likes the screwdriver best. Must make him go faster:)

Please, help:)

Ok, some specific questions. What is the difference between an automatic battery and a manual battery and what is a USB passthrough?

Hanna, an automatic battery has a sensor built into it that senses you drawing air (sucking on the cartridge) and turns the battery on to power the atomizer. The manual battery involves a switch/button that you must press and hold down for as long as you want the battery to heat up the atomizer during your draw. The advantage to the automatic is that you don't have to do anything but suck on the cartridge. However, many people have decided they prefer the manual as it allows them to "warm up/preheat" the atomizer prior to drawing on it so as to get maximum vaporization.

A USB passthrough allows you to vape without a battery. (which obviously means being less reliant on your batteries). Instead, you would screw your atomizer onto the USB passthrough and then plug the other end into a USB port (either on a computer, a mobile power pack, or in your car). Many vapers even note that the higher voltage they receive through a USB passthrough gives them a much stronger vaping experience then the standard battery that came with their e-cig.

Hope this was helpful! :)

Is there something that can tell me in plain english what the differences are in terms of how they look, how they are weighted, how they feel, how easy they are to fill etc.

Hanna, the link that Christena posted should have given you a starting idea behind what all the different model numbers mean (size being the biggest differentiator).

Aren't there certain styles, like real cigarettes...short ones, long ones, thin ones, and different ways they are put together or work etc. .etc...so a person can at least say ok, I want this style, and then go from there to figure out what they may want? The styles are the sizes (super mini, mini, pen-style, e-cigar, e-pipe). Bottom line, if you are looking for an e-cig that most closely resembles an "analog" then a super mini is what you are looking for. However, the smaller size means smaller battery (shorter smoking sessions per charge) and smaller cartridges (must replace or refill cartridges more often).

There is a poll in this forum (can't remember where it is right now) that has people voting on what e-cig they would recommend to a new smoker. The last time I saw it, the DSE-901 (mini e-cig size) was the most popular because it has a proven reliability, simplicity of use, most common size and therefore, easiest to find replacement parts for, and is a common ground between those people who want something as small as an "analog" cigarette but lasts (battery and cartridge-wise) as long as a pen-style.

This place helped me figure out the numbers and the brands. By NO means do they have all the brands, but it helps.
I like my dse901b :)p) It's a mini but more like a analog (cigarette) 100. Nice size and a very good for a "new to e-cigs" type.. My first one was a kr808..just like a real analog. It was useless. But the new generation of small e-cigs are getting rave reviews. Somebody needs to tell you the number though. 40..something!
The kr808 is like a Yugo..LOL The 901 is like a camery, dependable and nice to look at. Trog's Screwdiver is the Monster truck of E-cigs! I would love to see one up close! Everyone says it rocks.
You really have to search for the model numbers on each forum, but if they are good guys they will tell you...somewhere!
You asked some questions in your opening post that can't be answered in a thread like this. Each person is different, we have almost 10,000 members and all have such a wide varity of tastes in e-cigs and liquids..it boggles the mind!
There are a lot of reviews on the board, Some are video. They will tell you what e-cig they are using before reviewing the liquid. that way you can see them in action.:)

You won't believe the picture in my head. It has to do with a guy leaning over his computer puffing on a cigarette that is plugged into a cord, that is plugged into his computer...and as usual the usb cord is way too short.

This can't be so let me guess. This cord just keeps the battery charged so that when you unplug the cigarette from the cord teh battery is fully charged? Then you plug it right back in when you are done.

Normal USB passthroughs are just a USB cable connected to a switch in a device that looks like a battery and screws onto the atomisers - they have nice long cables :). There are now USB passthroughs that also have batteries - so they can be used plugged into the computer, but while they are the battery is getting charged and yoou can then use it away from a power source.

Wow thank you guys for your response. I'm sorry, i'm not used to the way this forum works so the reply of mine that is currently above this one is not related to two of the posts above it. See I am just confused all the way around;/

Anyway, I think the most important thing for me is how does it feel when you hold it between your fingers. Do any of them actually feel "normal", or is there going to be some weight to it etc. that makes it entirely different? If thats the case, that is what is, and I will just have to deal with it, but I'd like not to be disappointed when the thing arrives. Knowing ahead of time will prevent that:)

Also do people on here sell this stuff? I found a web page that is called Totally Wicked.
They have one called the Titan...it sounds good, but I have no idea how big it is. They do not give measurements on any of this stuff. They have that 901, it is platinum colored and it has a mouth piece on it. I don't like that mouthpiece thing. They have a regular looking white one, its Super 10CM. How do you know about these websites? For example they have one called TECC 510, another name for it is Titan. I looked on a list I had here somewhere and there were all kinds of things on the list, but not this, so I don't know it is so new or so old that it is not on the list here.

I really do appreciate you folks helping me. Right now I am doing a cold turkey and I need to rectify that asap:) ARGHHHHHHHHHHH

Not tried the Titan/Dura/510 (all the same thing) but people seem to really like the manual battery version (or Dura C) and say they get lots of vapour. (There have been some reliability issues but I believe they are getting better).

I have a 901, and have found that the Titan cartridges (which are round) also fit the 901 (and hold more juice). As my main device is a Screwdriver (which uses 901 atomisers) I can use Titan cartridges on that.

I've used the UK end of Totally Wicked a number of times and found them really reliable.

Hanna, I think you need to explore this site a bit more. There's a Supplier's Forum, that you can reach by scrolling down the main page, or use this direct link:

Supporting Suppliers - e-cigarette-forum.com • The place for electronic cigarette reviews, news and chat

If you click on the various individual suppliers, there's a link to their website/storefront, and most, if not all, have photos of the products they sell. Totally Wicked is included in the forum, BTW.

If you have a question about a specific e-cig, you can use the Search function (on the toolbar near the top of the page) to search for either whole threads or specific posts about the item.

I haven't been at e-smoking very long myself, and I started with an NJoy before I realized there was so many other alternatives available. I've found that I can find the answer to almost any question I may have by searching this forum -- although on some topics, it might take quite a bit of time, and digestion of a variety of opinions expressed.;)

Prof Beard, you are actually saying that you puff on your e-cigarette while it is plugged into a cord? If so I think I will pass on the USB thing for now. My quest is to duplicate "real smoking" as much as possible, hoping for an easier transition.

I am also hoping to get something that is reliable. I have ordered those wonderful gadgets, like that shower scrubber thing....wonderful idea, turned out to be a piece of junk and it should not be. Anyway I would like to avoid that:)

Do people here sell this stuff, or do you have to get it out there on the web somewhere?

Palmetto, I appreciate what you are saying, and I have been reading a LOT here, and trying to learn how this forum works. That is an ongoing project. I am able to find my posts, which was more than I could do day before yesterday so I am making progress. I apologize for being such a pain, I know I am and I would be irritated at me if I were you all. I guess I am in just a bit of a hurry.......I am suddenly a non-smoker and I am not enjoying it in the least. I want to get set-up with the e-cigarette FAST, however I don't want to make a huge mistake that will end up derailing the whole process. So I do apologize, I just ask that you understand how I'm kind of in a hurry;)
